Raiders fire special teams coordinator Tom McMahon

Fri Nov 7 5:31pm ET
Field Level Media

The Las Vegas Raiders fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon, the team announced Friday afternoon.

It would appear Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Denver Broncos was the final straw for McMahon, who has been in that role with the Raiders since 2022, two head coaches ago.

In that narrow loss, punter AJ Cole had a punt blocked for the second time this season, setting up what became the game-winning field goal for Denver. Las Vegas kicker Daniel Carlson missed a would-be game-tying field goal with 4:26 left.

A missed extra point the week prior in the overtime loss to Jacksonville and a blocked field goal in the Raiders' 25-24 loss to Chicago on Sept. 28 also loom large as special teams problems that have played a role in the team's 2-7 record.

"Earlier today, we made the tough decision to relieve Tom McMahon of his duties as special teams coordinator," coach Pete Carroll said in a statement. "I have a great amount of respect for Tom and the work that has done in this league, but we have decided to move in a different direction. Derius Swinton II will assume special teams coordinator duties for the second half of this season with outstanding intent and purpose.

"We are grateful for Tom and his work here with the Raiders and wish him nothing but the best moving forward."

McMahon has been consistently working as a special teams coach in the NFL since he was the assistant special teams coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007-08. He's since served as the ST coordinator for the St. Louis Rams (2009-11), Kansas City Chiefs (2012), Indianapolis Colts (2013-17) and Broncos (2018-21) before landing in Las Vegas.

Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 11

Player Notes
Jaire Alexander Nov 11 7:30pm ET
Jaire Alexander

Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Jaire Alexander has decided to step away from football. Alexander wants to get himself right physically and mentally before deciding on his future. He was traded to the Eagles in the beginning of November after playing two games for the Baltimore Ravens. Alexander has been a healthy scratch ever since joining the Eagles roster. It's unclear if the former Pro Bowl defensive back will actually return to football. He hasn't played a full season since 2022, so it's probably best for him to rest and get himself back to normal physically.

Michael Pittman Jr. Nov 11 7:20pm ET
Michael Pittman Jr.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. turned in a quiet performance in Week 10's 31-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Berlin. Pittman caught both of his two targets for only 19 yards in the win. Week 10 was a rare game where Pittman wasn't the Colts' most productive receiver as the team leaned on Alec Pierce, who caught four of seven targets for 84 yards and a touchdown. Pittman has now caught 54 passes for 580 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games for the Colts this season. He will be on bye in Week 11 before a Week 12 road matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Shavon Revel Jr. Nov 11 7:20pm ET
Shavon Revel Jr.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (knee) and Shavon Revel (knee) have been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Tuesday. Overshown is recovering from a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL in his knee from last December. He has been practicing in a limited capacity and is hopeful to make his season debut soon. There is no timetable at this time, so it's unclear if he'll be available for the Week 11 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Revel is also recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during his final game at East Carolina. He has been limited in practice, but will likely need additional time to prepare before getting into game action.

Josh Downs Nov 11 7:20pm ET
Josh Downs

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs caught just one of his two targets for a three-yard gain in a 31-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Berlin in Week 10. Downs was surprisingly quiet in the win as the Colts leaned on Tyler Warren and Alec Pierce in the passing attack. The veteran slot receiver saw a three-game touchdown streak come to an end, as well, in the contest. Overall, Downs has caught 36 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns in nine games this season. He will be on bye in Week 11 before an important road matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12.

Jerome Ford Nov 11 7:10pm ET
Jerome Ford

Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford carried the ball just one time for one yard while failing to corral his lone target in a 27-20 loss to the New York Jets in Week 10. Ford has been lightly used in the Cleveland offense of late, having seen just four carries over his past three games. The veteran tailback has taken a backseat to rookie Quinshon Judkins, who has been operating as the team's bell-cow back this season. Ford isn't even a particularly strong handcuff option as he would have to split work with Dylan Sampson if Judkins were forced to miss time at any point. Ford can be left on waivers ahead of a Week 11 home matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Dylan Sampson Nov 11 7:10pm ET
Dylan Sampson

Cleveland Browns running back Dylan Sampson lost four yards on his two carries while catching his lone target for a three-yard gain in a 27-20 loss to the New York Jets in Week 10. Sampson worked well behind starter Quinshon Judkins, who handled 22 carries while catching two passes in the close loss. This comes just two weeks after Sampson showed a flash of fantasy relevance by catching five passes for 29 yards. Sampson remains a solid stash in deeper dynasty leagues but he doesn't hold much value in redraft formats as he would likely have to split work with Jerome Ford if Judkins were forced to miss time at any point this season. Sampson will take on the Baltimore Ravens at home in Week 11.

David Njoku Nov 11 7:00pm ET
David Njoku

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku caught both of his targets for 21 yards and a touchdown in a 27-20 loss to the New York Jets in Week 10. Njoku got off to a fast start in the contest, hauling in a nine-yard touchdown pass from Dillon Gabriel in the first quarter. It was all downhill from there, however, as Njoku tacked on just one more catch, a 12-yarder, in the contest while rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. caught four of his seven targets for 44 yards. Njoku is on pace for his slowest season in years as he has just 29 catches for 281 yards and three touchdowns in eight games for the Browns. He will be a mid-range TE2 in Week 11's home matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Njoku caught four passes for 40 scoreless yards back when these two teams met in Week 2.

Asante Samuel Jr. Nov 11 6:50pm ET
Asante Samuel Jr.

Free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. is signing an undisclosed deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad on Tuesday, a source told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Samuel was a top-25 free agent back in March, but he was recovering from spinal-fusion surgery, which delayed his move to a new team. He has now latched on with a new team and will get a new start for the second half of the 2025 season for a team that has disappointed on defense despite other key offseason additions on that side of the ball. The 26-year-old defensive back will work his way up to full speed on Pittsburgh's practice squad, but he could be the obvious replacement for Darius Slay, who suffered a concussion in the Week 10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football. Samuel played in only four games in 2024 in his final year with the Bolts, but the Steelers will be hoping he can return to his pre-injury form.

Malik Hooker

Dallas Cowboys S Juanyeh Thomas (migraine) was placed on the non-football illness list Tuesday, Nov. 11, and will miss the next four games. He has been dealing with migraine issues for the last month. S Donovan Wilson (knee) is expected back for Week 11 and it's possible S Malik Hooker (toe) could return from injured reserve as well.

Harrison Phillips Nov 11 6:13pm ET
Harrison Phillips

New York Jets DL Harrison Phillips (foot), CB Azareye'h Thomas (concussion), and WR Garrett Wilson (knee) did not practice on Tuesday, Nov. 11. DE Will McDonald IV (quad) and DL Braiden McGregor (shoulder) were limited in practice on Tuesday. RB Khalil Herbert (groin), LB Kiko Mauigoa (concussion), and OL Xavier Newman (ankle) practiced in full on Tuesday.

Kayshon Boutte Nov 11 5:40pm ET
Kayshon Boutte

New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte (hamstring) was listed as limited in Tuesday's practice for the second straight day this week with a hamstring injury. Boutte picked up the hamstring injury in the Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons and did not play in Sunday's victory on the road over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's a good sign that he's at least on the field, but he's in danger of missing a second straight game on a short week this Thursday evening against the division-rival New York Jets. Despite missing last week, the third-year pass-catcher is second on the team with 431 receiving yards on his 23 receptions (31 targets) in nine games. Still, Boutte is up in the air to play this week, making him a risky weekly fantasy play. If he misses a second straight game, Mack Hollins, who had a 100-yard game in Week 10, will be worth considering as a flex option. Rookie Kyle Williams and DeMario Douglas will also have more opportunities again behind WR1 Stefon Diggs.

Rhamondre Stevenson Nov 11 5:30pm ET
Rhamondre Stevenson

For the second straight day, New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson (toe) was listed as limited in practice on Tuesday with a toe injury that has kept him from playing in the last two games, according to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. Fellow RB Terrell Jennings (knee) was also limited for a second straight day, while rookie second-rounder TreVeyon Henderson (knee) upraded to a full-go. At the very least, the Pats should have Henderson in their backfield in Thursday night's divisional clash against the New York Jets, but it's unclear yet if Stevenson or Jennings will be able to suit up. Before his toe injury in Week 8, the 27-year-old Stevenson was seeing most of New England's backfield work, despite his ball-security issues. However, after Henderson broke out with a 100-plus-yard rushing game and two rushing TDs in the Week 10 win over Tampa, the tide could be shifting in their backfield. Stevenson could take a back seat to Henderson on a short week if he's active this week.

Emari Demercado Nov 11 5:20pm ET
Emari Demercado

Despite increased involvement in the Arizona Cardinals' backfield of late, running back Emari Demercado is listed as the No. 2 RB behind Bam Knight heading into the team's Week 11 divisional clash with the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday. Knight made the start in Sunday's blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks and led the backfield with 10 carries before leaving late in the game with an ankle injury. Knight's ankle injury doesn't seem to be serious enough to keep him from playing this weekend, which makes the 26-year-old Demercado less attractive as a potential DFS sleeper against San Fran. Trying to predict Arizona's backfield since Trey Benson's knee injury has been a headache for fantasy managers, although as long as he stays healthy, Knight appears to be the guy in more of a committee approach. Dermercado had a season-high 14 carries for 79 yards on Nov. 3 against the Cowboys, but he handled only eight touches in Week 10, going for 67 scrimmage yards. It's hard to recommend any Cardinals RB in fantasy as anything more than a desperation RB3/flex until Benson returns from IR.

From RotoBaller

TreVeyon Henderson Nov 11 5:20pm ET
TreVeyon Henderson

New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson (knee) was listed as a full participant at Tuesday's practice after he was limited on Monday due to a knee issue, according to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. Henderson tweaked his knee in the Week 10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but he returned to the contest and finished with a career day in the 28-23 win. The 23-year-old second-rounder had 14 carries for the second straight week with Rhamondre Stevenson (toe) sidelined and ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns. One of his touchdowns was an explosive 69-yard scamper down the sideline. Henderson finally broke out for the Pats and fantasy managers, but can he do it again this Thursday night in a plus divisional matchup versus the New York Jets? Henderson's stock is certainly trending upwards, but his fantasy ceiling in Week 11 will depend on whether Stevenson can end his two-game absence.

Zonovan Knight Nov 11 5:10pm ET
Zonovan Knight

Arizona Cardinals running back Bam Knight is still listed as the team's RB1 on the depth chart ahead of their Week 11 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Knight has maintained a narrow edge in snaps over Emari Demercado over the past two weeks, playing 71 snaps to Demercado's 56. The 24-year-old Knight has ceded more work on passing downs, but has handled four of the seven carries inside the 10-yard line in the past two games. Trey Benson (knee) is expected to return soon and should retain his duties as the lead back, but his timeline is still uncertain as of now. Knight will remain in RB3 territory in Week 11 if Benson is out.

Justin Tucker Nov 11 5:00pm ET
Justin Tucker

Free agent kicker Justin Tucker's 10-game suspension was officially lifted by the commissioner on Tuesday and remains eligible to sign with any team after being released by the Baltimore Ravens in May, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Tucker served a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's conduct policy after multiple sexual misconduct allegations earlier this year. The 35-year-old was suspended in June after the league investigated the accusations. Tucker is eligible to sign with any team as he has been for months, but no team has shown any interest in doing so.

Robbie Chosen Nov 11 4:50pm ET
Robbie Chosen

The Washington Commanders have elevated wide receiver Robbie Chosen to the active 53-man roster from the practice squad ahead of their Week 11 matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid. Chosen has appeared in two games for Washington, catching five of eight targets for 53 yards. The 32-year-old wideout has all of a sudden become one of Washington's top wide receivers on gameday as they continue to be ravaged by injury, with top option Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) set to miss another game, Luke McCaffrey (shoulder) out for the season, Noah Brown (groin) on Injured Reserve, and the recently signed Treylon Burks (finger) also ruled out for Week 11. Chosen is expected to play more snaps against the Dolphins along with Deebo Samuel Sr., Chris Moore, and rookie Jaylin Lane.

Rashee Rice Nov 11 4:40pm ET
Rashee Rice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice made his season debut in Week 7 against the Raiders and has immediately been one of the best fantasy wide receivers in the league. Rice has totaled 20 receptions on 26 targets for 215 yards and three touchdowns while adding four carries for 18 yards and another touchdown on the ground. The 25-year-old is averaging 22.4 PPR points per game, ranking as the WR5 in that span. Rice is one of just five wideouts to average over 20 PPR points per game on the season and should be ready to crush after the bye week as Patrick Mahomes' clear No. 1 target. Head coach Andy Reid has even given him carries near the goal line this season as the Chiefs work through their running back problems. With his high target volume and usage near the end zone, Rice is locked and loaded as a top-five fantasy receiver for the rest of the season.
