Aaron Nola Fri Aug 8 7:00pm ET

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (ankle, ribs) will make another minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, according to Lochlan March of The Philadelphia Inquirer. If everything goes well with Nola's rehab start on Tuesday, he could return from the 60-day injured list after that. The 32-year-old veteran threw 69 pitches in his latest rehab start, so he should be sufficiently stretched out after his next start in the minors. Nola hasn't looked right in 2025, though, going 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA (5.04 FIP) and 1.51 WHIP with 52 strikeouts and 16 walks in 49 2/3 innings over nine starts before injuries struck. He's been out since May 15 with an ankle sprain and has also been battling a stress reaction in his right rib that he suffered on his first rehab assignment. How far the Phillies go this year could depend on Nola's ability to bounce back.

Kyle Karros Fri Aug 8 7:00pm ET

Colorado Rockies infield prospect Kyle Karros is being promoted to the major league roster prior to their contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday evening. In addition, Karros is slated to cover the hot corner and bat in the eight-hole. The 23-year-old is currently considered the No. 8-ranked prospect in the Colorado system on MLB.com. The former fifth-round pick out of UCLA opened the campaign with Double-A but needed only 55 games to prove he was ready to join the top ranks of the Colorado system. Through a short 16-game stint with Albuquerque, Karros posted a stellar .306/.368/.500 slash line with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, and a 12:5 K:BB. He is a name to monitor for now, as he could carve out an everyday role on a Colorado team that recently traded third baseman Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees.

Alec Bohm Fri Aug 8 6:40pm ET

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (ribs) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Lochlahn March. Bohm is trying to return from a fractured left rib that has kept him out since July 19. It's unclear how many rehab games the 29-year-old will require, but if he's feeling good after games this weekend, there's a chance he could come off the 10-day injured to rejoin the major-league squad at some point next week. With Bohm sidelined, the Phillies have been mixing and matching at the hot corner with rookie Otto Kemp and veteran utility infielder Edmundo Sosa. Bohm still makes plenty of contact and has hit .278 (98-for-353) in 92 games this year, but his power has never been anything special and he hit eight long balls in 383 plate appearances before his trip to the IL.

Thairo Estrada Fri Aug 8 6:20pm ET

The Colorado Rockies transferred infielder Thairo Estrada (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on Friday, which means that he won't be back with the team the rest of the season after straining his right hamstring in Tuesday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Estrada also got a late start to the year with the Rockies and ended up hitting a mediocre .253/.285/.370 with a .655 OPS, three home runs, 21 RBI, 14 runs scored and a stolen base in his 154 at-bats for Colorado. Former prospect Adael Amador is starting at second base in the series opener in Arizona against the Diamondbacks on Friday, but Aaron Schunk could also factor in at the keystone for the last-place Rockies going forward with Estrada on the shelf. Amador has hit .176 (24-for-136) with a homer and eight RBI in 47 games in the big leagues since making his debut in 2024.

Jameson Taillon Fri Aug 8 6:20pm ET

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (calf) is making another minor-league rehab start on Friday with Triple-A Iowa, according to Taylor McGregor of Watch Marquee. The Cubs wanted to see Taillon make another start down on the farm after he surrendered seven runs in just three innings of work in his last rehab start. If the 33-year-old veteran looks better and comes out of Friday's start without suffering a setback, it's very possible he'll be activated from the injured list in order to rejoin Chicago's starting rotation for the stretch run. The former first-rounder by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010 has been inconsistent this year in his 17 starts at the big-league level and offers minimal fantasy upside with a 7.0 K/9 in 95 1/3 innings. Taillon has a 4.44 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 74:20 K:BB on the year in his third season on the North Side.

Yordan Alvarez Fri Aug 8 6:10pm ET

Houston Astros outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (hand) is still in the coach's batting practice stage of his hitting progression, according to manager Joe Espada. Alvarez hit in the cages on Friday and is scheduled to hit on the field in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger has not played in a major-league game this year since May 2 due to a lingering hand injury, but if he's able to keep making progress, the Astros expect that he'll return to the roster in the middle of August. Alvarez's hand injury was likely a big reason he was hitting only .210 (21-for-100) with three home runs, 18 RBI and seven runs in the early portion of the season. The three-time All-Star has the ability to carry a fantasy offense when he's right, but the big question is whether Alvarez will be right again in 2025.

    From RotoBaller

Orlando Arcia Fri Aug 8 5:40pm ET

The Colorado Rockies announced on Friday that they placed infielder Orlando Arcia (elbow) on the 10-day injured list with right-elbow inflammation and selected the contract of infielder Aaron Schunk from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. The Rockies also moved infielder Thairo Estrada (hamstring) from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL. Arcia injured his elbow on Tuesday and is now going to miss at least another week. The Rockies also called up infield prospect Kyle Karros on Friday. It's unclear who will start at the hot corner for the Rockies on Friday night, but they could rotate Karros, Kyle Farmer and Warming Bernabel at the position while Arcia is sidelined. The 31-year-old Arcia has not been a fantasy asset, even in deep leagues, since joining the Rockies midseason, as he's gone 29-for-156 (.186) with only three homers, eight RBI and eight runs on the entire year.

Josh Naylor Fri Aug 8 5:30pm ET

Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder) is out of the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays at T-Mobile Park. Donovan Solano will man first base and hit seventh for the M's against Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen. Naylor was pulled from Thursday's win over the Chicago White Sox early due to soreness in his left shoulder and he'll miss the first game of the series against Tampa as a result. Fantasy managers should consider the 28-year-old lefty slugger day-to-day for the time being. Since being acquired in a trade from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Naylor has gone 12-for-46 (.261) with three home runs, a double, six RBI, 10 stolen bases and eight runs in only 13 games. Naylor was a first-time All-Star in 2024 and is already at a career high for steals in 2025 with 21.

    From RotoBaller

Jake Burger Fri Aug 8 5:20pm ET

The Texas Rangers activated infielder Jake Burger (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned outfielder Alejandro Osuna to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Burger will be the team's designated hitter on Friday and bat seventh in the series opener against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies and tough left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. The 29-year-old Burger is returning for the first time since July 16 due to a left quadriceps strain. The former first-rounder by the Chicago White Sox in 2017 out of Missouri State should play regularly in Texas between DH and first base. Burger hit 34 home runs in 2023 and nearly returned to the 30-homer mark last year, so he has plenty of pop, but also a lot of swing and miss. He's returning to a .228/.259/.401 slash line with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 33 runs in 75 games in his first year in Texas.

    From RotoBaller

Trevor Larnach Fri Aug 8 5:20pm ET

Minnesota Twins outfielder Trevor Larnach (side) is absent from the starting lineup on Friday in the series opener against the division-rival Kansas City Royals at Target Field. Mickey Gasper will draw into the lineup as the designated hitter and will bat ninth for the Twins against Royals right-hander Seth Lugo. Larnach will miss a second straight game after he was scratched on Wednesday with soreness in his left side. The 28-year-old wasn't feeling good enough to play on Friday after a scheduled day off on Thursday. This is the type of injury that could certainly require an injured-list stint if he doesn't recover quickly. The switch-hitting Gasper should be avoided as a DFS sleeper in the nine-hole. The 29-year-old has never faced Lugo and has gone just 7-for-42 (.167) with no homers and four RBI this year in a limited role.

    From RotoBaller

Yoan Moncada Fri Aug 8 5:10pm ET

The Los Angeles Angels reinstated infielder Yoan Moncada from the restricted list on Friday and optioned infielder Niko Kavadas to Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Moncada is back with the Halos, but he won't start in Friday's series opener in Detroit against the Tigers. Luis Rengifo is at third and will bat sixth against Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. The 30-year-old Moncada was away from the team in order to get his U.S. citizenship. The Cuban switch-hitter should play occasionally for the Angels at third base now that he's back. Moncada can provide a little bit of pop but hasn't provided a whole lot of anything for fantasy managers in deeper leagues in 2025. He's returning to a weak .221/.320/.436 slash line with a .756 OPS, eight home runs, 24 RBI and 24 runs scored in only 48 games in his first year in Anaheim.

    From RotoBaller

Colton Cowser Fri Aug 8 5:00pm ET

The Baltimore Orioles placed both outfielders Colton Cowser (concussion) and Tyler O'Neill (wrist) on the injured list on Friday and also recalled outfielder Jordyn Adams from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Cowser was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list, while O'Neill is on the 10-day IL. The O's recently traded away center fielder Cedric Mullins, so combined with the injuries to Cowser and O'Neill, Baltimore will be forced to start Dylan Carlson, Greg Allen and Ryan Noda across the outfield from left to right field on Friday against the Athletics. Jeremiah Jackson could also see more opportunities in the next week to two weeks. Both Cowser and O'Neill have been fantasy disappointments for the struggling O's this year, with Cowser hitting just .213 with nine homers and six steals and O'Neill batting .210 with eight homers on the season.

    From RotoBaller

Ryan Mountcastle Fri Aug 8 4:40pm ET

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Friday and he is serving as the designated hitter while batting fifth in Friday's series opener against the visiting Athletics at Camden Yards. With Mountcastle back, the 28-year-old right-handed hitter should see starts between DH and first base. He has been away from the big-league team since May 30, though, and there's no guarantee he'll find his groove after struggling to a .246/.280/.348 slash line with two home runs, 15 RBI and 19 runs scored in 187 at-bats before his injury. But Mountcastle should play regularly with the disappointing O's the rest of the way, especially after both outfielders Colton Cowser (concussion) and Tyler O'Neill (wrist) landed on the injured on Friday. Mountcastle has never faced A's Friday starter J.T. Ginn.

    From RotoBaller

Shelby Miller Fri Aug 8 4:20pm ET

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Friday that they reinstated right-handed reliever Shelby Miller (forearm) from the 15-day injured list and sent left-hander Robert Gasser (elbow) to Triple-A Nashville on a minor-league rehab start in a corresponding move. Miller was acquired by the Brewers to bolster their bullpen at the July 31 trade deadline but has yet to make his debut with his new club. Prior to the trade and his injury, the veteran right-handed had become the Diamondbacks' primary closer in the desert. Miller has been great this year with a 1.98 ERA, 10 saves and eight holds in his 36 1/3 innings, but he figures to lose plenty of fantasy appeal with the move to Milwaukee because he'll likely serve in a late-inning setup role in front of closer Trevor Megill. Still, Miller will continue to have value in holds leagues if he continues to pitch like he was before his forearm setback.

    From RotoBaller

Willson Contreras Fri Aug 8 4:20pm ET

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras (illness) is feeling better on Friday and is starting at first base and hitting third in the series opener at Busch Stadium against the division-rival Chicago Cubs and left-hander Matthew Boyd. Contreras was held out of Wednesday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodger and then had an off day on Thursday. He's feeling better now and will take the field against the tough lefty Boyd, who he has hit only .091 in 11 at-bats against. The 33-year-old former catcher has hit well against southpaws in 2025, though, and is slashing .258/.343/.451 with a .794 OPS, 16 home runs, 64 RBI, 57 runs and four stolen bases in 399 at-bats on the year. Contreras has gone 5-for-17 with a double, two home runs, three RBI and five runs in only five games so far in the month of August.

    From RotoBaller

Logan Henderson Fri Aug 8 4:10pm ET

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Friday that they placed right-hander Logan Henderson (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 4) with right-elbow inflammation and recalled right-hander Tobias Myers from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Henderson ended up making only one start this past Sunday in place of rookie right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (leg), but now he'll join him on the IL and might not be ready to return in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, Myers will give the Brewers rotation depth until Misiorowski is ready to return from a minor injury. Henderson is in his rookie season in the big leagues but has been strong in the early going with a 3-0 record, 1.78 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 33:8 K:BB in 25 1/3 innings pitched over his five starts. However, he may stay down in the minors when he's past his shoulder issue.

    From RotoBaller

Luke Keaschall Fri Aug 8 3:00pm ET

Minnesota Twins first base/second base/outfield prospect Luke Keaschall has been nothing short of dominant since returning to the major leagues. The former second-round pick was sidelined for nearly three months due to a forearm fracture. However, throughout his first two games back with Minnesota, Keaschall has gone 4-for-9 at the plate with two doubles and a home run. During this stretch, the No. 42-ranked prospect in the sport tallied six RBI and scored one run. Earlier in the campaign, Keaschall made his MLB debut and flashed immense upside. In his first six games in Minnesota before suffering the fracture, Keaschall tallied three doubles and swiped five bags in a six-game stint. Fantasy managers should view Keaschall as a must-target on the waiver wire, as he should continue to see everyday opportunities in the Minnesota starting nine.

    From RotoBaller

Justin Crawford Fri Aug 8 2:50pm ET

Philadelphia Phillies outfield prospect Justin Crawford has continued to find success and is making a strong case to join the Phillies for the stretch run. Over his last 11 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the No. 3-ranked prospect in the system on MLB.com has posted a strong .333/.429/.361 line with an 11:6 K:BB and four stolen bases. While he is not known for being a power hitter, Crawford has shown strong contact skills with high-upside speed. Through 91 total games at Triple-A this season, the former 17th overall pick from the 2022 MLB Draft has posted a .327/.411/.423 line with 19 doubles and 31 stolen bases. He has only gone deep three times. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking to boost their stolen base total down the stretch should consider stashing Crawford, as he should be in the mix to debut in the majors before the end of the month.

    From RotoBaller

Samuel Basallo Fri Aug 8 2:40pm ET

Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo has continued to flash immense power upside at Triple-A and is quickly approaching his MLB debut. In each of his last three games at Norfolk, the top catching prospect in the sport has gone deep at least once and posted two multi-hit performances. Over his last 14 total games with the Tides, Basallo has held an eye-catching .362/.429/.862 slash line with eight doubles, seven home runs, 23 RBI, and an elite 1.301 OPS. Through 71 total games at the top ranks of the Baltimore system this season, the 20-year-old budding superstar has posted a .278/.387/.621 line with 16 doubles and 23 home runs. Given his elite power upside, fantasy managers should continue to view Basallo as a top hitting prospect to stash in all 12+ team leagues. With the Orioles out of the playoff picture, Basallo could make his long-awaited MLB debut in the coming weeks.

    From RotoBaller

Dylan Beavers Fri Aug 8 2:30pm ET

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Dylan Beavers has continued to find success at Triple-A Norfolk and is on the verge of making his MLB debut. In his most recent contest, the outfielder went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. This is his third-straight game tallying a hit and third-straight tallying at least one extra-base hit. Over his last 12 games, the No. 5-ranked prospect in the Baltimore system has been nothing short of dominant, posting an elite .349/.533/.907 slash line with a 1.440 OPS, three doubles, and seven home runs. Overall, the 23-year-old has posted a strong .309/.423/.538 line with 14 doubles, 18 home runs, and 22 stolen bases across 87 games at Triple-A Norfolk. With the Orioles moving several outfielders at the deadline, Beavers could make his MLB debut in the coming weeks. He is a top stash in redraft leagues given his ability to steal bases and hit for power.
