Shea Langeliers Tue May 7 2:20pm CT

Oakland Athletics corner infielder/outfielder Tyler Nevin and catcher Shea Langeliers are both starting on the bench on Tuesday against the visiting Texas Rangers. Nevin will head to the bench after going hitless in his last 14 at-bats. Despite his recent slump, the 26-year-old is still slashing a solid .277/.349/.426 on the year with four home runs, 10 RBI, a steal and 11 runs scored in 94 at-bats for the A's. Langeliers will get the day off in a day game after a night game. He's hitting just .179 (19-for-106) on the year but has shown nice power with seven homers and 16 RBI in the early going. Brett Harris is starting at third base and batting ninth, while Kyle McCann is doing the catching and hitting sixth for the A's on Tuesday against Rangers right-hander Jose Urena.

Estevan Florial Tue May 7 2:00pm CT

Outfielder Estevan Florial is batting leadoff for the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday. Florial batted leadoff for Cleveland on Monday and went 1-for-3 in the Guardians win. The left fielder is slashing .206/.286/.429 with three home runs and nine RBI. Florial will set up the middle of the Guardians order of Andres Gimenez, Jose Ramirez, and Josh Naylor, who helped Cleveland beat Detroit on Monday. Florial will continue to get run in left field and in the leadoff spot with outfielder Steven Kwan (hamstring) out due to an injury, so he is a viable fantasy option for the next four weeks while Kwan is on the injured list.

Nathan Eovaldi Tue May 7 2:00pm CT

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is playing catch after rejoining the team on Monday after meeting with doctors in New York. Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day IL on May 3 with a strained right groin. The hope is Eovaldi won't need a rehab assignment and can return to the rotation on May 18 once he is eligible to come off the IL. Eovaldi is 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA this season as in five starts, he's given up just 10 runs and has 33 strikeouts. The right-hander has been a great fantasy option this season as he's gone at least 5.1 innings in every outing and has allowed three or fewer runs in four of his starts. With Eovaldi on the IL, Jose Urena and Jack Leiter will be starting for the Rangers.

Masyn Winn Tue May 7 1:50pm CT

Shortstop Masyn Winn is not in the lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday as the team hosts the New York Mets in the second game of a three-game series. The shortstop went 1-for-4 on Monday but isn't in the starting lineup, as St. Louis will be starting Brandon Crawford at shortstop, who is also batting eighth. This season, Winn is slashing .265/.333/.357 with zero home runs and seven RBI. However, the shortstop has struggled of late, as he's hitting .105 in his last five games. Winn is only eight percent owned on Yahoo and five percent on ESPN, but he isn't worth a fantasy look for the time being in standard-sized leagues until he picks things up offensively.

Jose Abreu Tue May 7 1:40pm CT

Houston Astros manager Joe Espada told SportsTalk790 that there is no timetable for first baseman Jose Abreu to return to the big-league roster. Abreu was sent down to the Florida Complex League on April 30 to help with his swing. Before being optioned, Abreu struggled at the plate, slashing .099/.156/.113 with zero home runs and three RBI. With Abreu in the minor leagues, Houston has been starting Jon Singleton at first base. Singleton is slashing .258/.329/.435 this season with three home runs and eight RBI. If Abreu does return to the MLB, he will need to prove he can produce offensively to be an everyday player for the Astros once again.

TJ Friedl Tue May 7 1:30pm CT

The Cincinnati Reds have activated outfielder TJ Friedl (wrist) from the 10-day injured list. Friedl has yet to play this season due to a fractured right wrist. The outfielder is expected to replace Stuart Fairchild as the Reds starting center fielder. During his minor-league rehab assignment, Friedl went 4-for-16 with three doubles, three runs scored, and two RBI. Last season, Friedl slashed .279/.352/.467 with 18 home runs and can be a viable fantasy option due to his on-base ability and his ability to hit home runs. Friedl is currently owned in 44% of leagues on Yahoo and 31% on ESPN. He will get the chance to be an everyday player in the lineup going forward.

Oneil Cruz Tue May 7 1:30pm CT

Shortstop Oneil Cruz is not in the Pittsburgh Pirates lineup on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels. The Pirates shortstop will not be in the lineup due to Los Angeles starting left-hander Patrick Sandoval. Cruz, who bats left-handed, has struggled against left-handers this season, as he's slashing .132/.154/.211. With Cruz out of the lineup, Pittsburgh will be starting Alika Williams at shortstop, who will be batting ninth. Williams is slashing .275/.310/.400 this season. Cruz should be back in the lineup on Wednesday with a right-hander pitcher on the mound for the Angels. The shortstop will also be available off the bench as a pinch-hitter on Tuesday.

Frankie Montas Tue May 7 1:20pm CT

The Cincinnati Reds have activated starting pitcher Frankie Montas (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Montas has been on the injured list since April 22 due to a forearm injury. After throwing a couple of bullpen sessions, Montas was activated and will be starting for Cincinnati on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Montas has started five games this season and is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA with 14 strikeouts. One possible concern for fantasy managers is the fact that Montas did not have a minor-league rehab outing or get into game action, as he just did bullpen sessions. He's also facing a Diamondbacks offense that is slashing .249/.325/.389, which ranks eighth, seventh, and 14th, respectively, in the majors.

Tylor Megill Tue May 7 12:00pm CT

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw four scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start on Tuesday for Triple-A Syracuse with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Manager Carlos Mendoza said on Monday that it was possible this would be Megill's last rehab start. If so, the Mets will have to decide if Megill jumps back into the starting rotation or stays at Syracuse. If the Mets don't move to a six-man rotation when the 28-year-old is activated from the injured list, rookie Christian Scott could be the odd man out and sent back to Syracuse if the Mets are intent on returning Megill to their rotation. In his one start before his injury, Megill gave up just one earned run in four innings against the Brewers on March 31 while walking three and striking out four. He'll be an option in NL-only leagues if he rejoins New York's rotation.

Robert Garcia Tue May 7 11:50am CT

The Washington Nationals reinstated left-hander Robert Garcia (illness) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and designated right-hander Matt Barnes for assignment in a corresponding move. Garcia has missed the last couple of weeks due to a bout with the flu, but he's feeling better now and will return to Washington's bullpen. The 27-year-old made one minor-league rehab outing. Garcia, a former 15th-round pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2017 out of UC Davis, made his big-league debut last year with the Miami Marlins and Nationals and has allowed six earned runs on 12 hits (one home run) while walking four and striking out 13 in his 8 1/3 relief innings for the Nats this year. He's off the fantasy radar for now.

    From RotoBaller

Dany Jimenez Tue May 7 11:40am CT

The Oakland Athletics optioned right-hander Dany Jimenez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and selected right-hander Tyler Ferguson's contract from Las Vegas in a corresponding move. The club also designated outfielder Lazaro Armenteros for assignment. Jimenez has struggled of late out of Oakland's bullpen, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, eight walks and nine strikeouts in his last 10 innings. However, the 30-year-old didn't allow an earned run in his first five appearances of the season, so his overall ERA of 3.68 doesn't look too bad. The Dominican reliever will likely be back with Oakland at some point after going to the minors to work on the command of his pitches. With Jimenez out of the picture for the time being, Lucas Erceg and Austin Adams will be the A's primary setup men in front of impressive young closer Mason Miller.

Jett Williams Tue May 7 11:30am CT

New York Mets shortstop prospect Jett Williams (wrist), the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, started dealing with right-wrist soreness at the end of last month, which has kept him off the field since April 21. Williams received a cortisone injection at the end of last week, according to senior vice president of player development Andy Green. He's waiting for the injection to take effect and has plans to start swinging a bat in the coming days and return to games by the end of the month of May. Williams was off to a slow start before his injury, with a .179/.360/.308 slash line in his first extended taste of Double-A ball. But it shouldn't be too concerning, as the former first-rounder thrived during his first full minor-league season in 2023, hitting 13 homers, drawing 104 walks and stealing 45 bases, mostly at Single-A St. Lucie. Williams should be stashed in most dynasty/keeper formats.

    From RotoBaller

Drew Gilbert Tue May 7 11:30am CT

New York Mets outfielder Drew Gilbert (hamstring), the top prospect the Mets acquired from the Houston Astros in the Justin Verlander trade last summer, hasn't played in the minors since straining his right hamstring in the second game of an April 6 doubleheader for Triple-A Syracuse. Gilbert is still in the "strengthening phase" of his recovery process. His timeline to return will depend in large part upon how well he responds to his running progression, but the Mets are hopeful he will be ready toward the end of May or beginning of June. The 23-year-old was hitting .240/.321/.360 in seven games with Syracuse before his injury. Gilbert, who was taken 28th overall by Houston in 2022 out of Tennessee, is ranked as the Mets' No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, so he deserves to be stashed in all dynasty/keeper leagues.

Matt Carpenter Tue May 7 11:20am CT

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman/designated hitter Matt Carpenter (oblique) is moving his minor-league rehab assignment to Triple-A Memphis, according to manager Oliver Marmol. Memphis was off on Monday and will return to action on Tuesday. In two games with Double-A Springfield over the weekend, Carpenter went 1-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. The 38-year-old veteran has been on the injured list since April 2 with a right-oblique strain. The three-time All-Star is getting close to a return to the major-league lineup, but he offers virtually zero upside for those playing fantasy after slashing .176/.322/.319 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 76 games last year with the San Diego Padres. At best, he'll be an option at DH for the Cardinals against right-handed pitching when he returns.

    From RotoBaller

Gary Sanchez Tue May 7 11:20am CT

Milwaukee Brewers catcher Gary Sanchez brought in the only two runs on Monday in the loss to the Kansas City Royals. Sanchez went 1-for-4, with his only hit being a two-run home run, while striking out once. The 31-year-old catcher has been trying to improve his slow start to the season, hitting .212 (11-for-52) through 20 games. He has recorded three doubles, four homers, six runs, eight RBI, three walks and 10 strikeouts. He remains most relevant in two-catcher leagues for his pop and while being the backup to William Contreras. The tough matchups for the Brewers catcher will continue this week, finishing up in Kansas City before hosting the St. Louis Cardinals.

    From RotoBaller

Tyler Matzek Tue May 7 11:10am CT

The Atlanta Braves placed left-hander Tyler Matzek (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 5) with left-elbow inflammation on Tuesday and recalled left-hander Ray Kerr from the minors in a corresponding move. It's not a good sign for a pitcher that missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery. In addition to his injury, the 33-year-old veteran reliever has not been good so far in 2024, allowing 11 earned runs on 16 hits (three home runs) while walking three and striking out 10 in 10 innings out of Atlanta's bullpen. Given the fact that he missed all of last year due to injury, it seems likely that Matzek won't be able to return to the Braves' bullpen when he's eligible to come off the 15-day IL.

Shohei Ohtani Tue May 7 11:00am CT

Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani continued hitting homers with another one in Monday's 6-3 victory over the Miami Marlins. Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, one walk, and one strikeout. This marked his third straight game with a home run. The 29-year-old phenom continues dominating at the plate, leading the league with 54 hits, 14 doubles, and 11 home runs while batting .370 with a .705 slugging percentage, and 1.139 OPS. Ohtani remains a must-start across all league formats and will be finishing up the Miami series this week and traveling to San Diego to face the Padres to end the week.

    From RotoBaller

Teoscar Hernandez Tue May 7 11:00am CT

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez joined in on the action in Monday's 6-3 victory against the Miami Marlins. Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, marking his ninth of the season while pushing his hitting streak to five straight games. He is now hitting .259 (37-for-143) for the season with six doubles, nine homers, 24 runs, 26 RBI, 13 walks, and 49 strikeouts. He is fourth in strikeouts but has provided consistent play for fantasy managers this season with more favorable matchups coming this week.

    From RotoBaller

Cade Horton Tue May 7 8:10am CT

Chicago Cubs starting pitching prospect Cade Horton was promoted to Triple-A last week and made his first start on May 4. In this outing, he tossed four innings of two-run ball with four walks and six strikeouts. After dominating Double-A at the beginning of this season and last year, Horton faced a bit of a challenge in Triple-A. The 22-year-old allowed just two runs throughout his four starts at Double-A this April but already matched that total in just one Triple-A start. However, the number two prospect in the Cubs system continued to showcase his elite swing-and-miss potential, suggesting that he is more than capable of handling Triple-A competition. Horton is expected to be up with the major league roster later in the summer and should be rostered in all dynasty and keeper formats.

    From RotoBaller

Zack Wheeler Tue May 7 1:44am CT

Philadelphia's SP Zack Wheeler recorded 11 strikeouts in 7 innings with the win in a 6-1 win over the Giants on Monday, May. 6.
