Here comes the BOOM | 171 |
Minnesota Twins second base prospect Luke Keaschall continued his impressive start to his MLB career on Wednesday evening during their victory over the New York Yankees. In this contest, Keaschall went 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI. In the fourth, Keaschall tallied his RBI via groundout, which scored Trevor Larnach. Later in the sixth, Keaschall would score on a Kody Clemens double. Since returning from injury on August 5, the former second-round pick has been one of the most productive hitters in the sport, posting an elite .324/.324/.588 slash line with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, and three runs. In his first six games in the majors before his injury in April, Keaschall looked just as impressive, swiping five bags and hitting a .368 AVG. He is a must-roster player going forward given his power and speed upside.
From RotoBaller
Colorado Rockies third base prospect Kyle Karros has looked quite strong since joining the MLB roster earlier in August. Through his first six games in the major leagues, Karros has posted a .333/.417/.476 slash line with three doubles and a 4:3 K:BB. On Wednesday, Karros scored an impressive three runs and posted his second multi-hit game of his MLB career. Before earning the call earlier in August, Karros was considered the No. 8-ranked prospect in the system on MLB.com. He spent the first half of the season split between Double-A and Triple-A. With Double-A, he held a .294/.399/.462 line. Through a short 16-game stint with Triple-A, Karros continued to hit, posting a .206/.368/.500 slash line. Given his steady production, he is worth a look in all 12-team leagues as he seems to have earned a starting job in the Colorado lineup.

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Carter Jensen (wrist) was held out of the starting nine on Wednesday due to a right wrist contusion. Rogers noted that the backstop sustained this injury during his contest at Triple-A on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his stats in case this injury begins to linger. The 22-year-old opened the regular season with Double-A but needed only 68 games to prove he was ready to join Triple-A Omaha. At Double-A, Jensen held a .292/.360/.420 line with nine doubles and six home runs. Since joining Omaha, Jensen has continued to find success at the plate, holding a .252/.358/.574 slash line with eight doubles, nine home runs, and two stolen bases. He is a prospect to watch as he could push for a late-season MLB debut.
From RotoBaller
New York Yankees right-handed pitching prospect Cam Schlittler struck out six hitters in a no-decision against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday evening. The right-hander logged five innings of one-run ball. He allowed only two hits and two walks. Most of his damage came in the fourth inning when Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton knocked an RBI double which scored Trevor Larnach. Since the start of August (three starts), Schlittler has posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 15:5 K:BB across 15 innings of work. In his first three starts in the majors, he held a higher 4.91 ERA with a 1.84 WHIP. Given his strong production in August, fantasy managers should expect the Northeast product to remain in the starting rotation for the time being. He is lined up to face the Tampa Bay Rays in his next start.
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays shortstop prospect Carson Williams continued his power surge on Wednesday. Facing Triple-A Nashville, the shortstop went 1-for-2 with a long ball and two walks. This was his third home run over his last four games. Before this impressive power surge, Williams went just 4-for-18 over his last five contests. Since the start of August, Williams has been very productive at the plate, holding a .263/.364/.579 line with four home runs, two stolen bases, and a 12:6 K:BB. The 22-year-old has spent the entire 2025 regular season with Triple-A Durham. While he got off to a slow start in the first half, he has begun to find his footing and is making a case to be in the mix to join Tampa for the stretch. He is a name to monitor as Tampa could give him a look if he continues to hit for power.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Angels second base prospect Christian Moore has begun to lose playing time. He hit the bench once again on Wednesday, in favor of Luis Rengifo. Over the last week, the former eighth overall pick has sat out of three games. Fantasy managers should continue to keep an eye on his status, but it appears the Angels could option him back to Triple-A as he is falling out of a role with the major league club. Since returning from the injured list on August 3, Moore has held a modest .200/.310/.280 line with two doubles and an 8:4 K:BB. During this stretch, Moore has not gone deep. Throughout his first 18 games in the majors before his injury, Moore held a .189 AVG with a .698 OPS. Given his decreasing playing time and lack of success at the plate, he is only worth rostering in deeper formats for the time being.
From RotoBaller
Miami Marlins left-handed pitching prospect Robby Snelling took a tough luck loss on Wednesday as he allowed two runs (zero earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out nine against Triple-A Norfolk. Snelling pitched well overall, generating 13 whiffs on 45 swings and not allowing a ton of hard contact with an 86.6 MPH average exit velocity. The lefty has been lights out since being promoted to Triple-A Jacksonville on July 10, allowing only seven runs (five earned) across 33.2 innings with a 43:7 K:BB ratio. Snelling is young for the level at 21 years old and has looked great so far. He'll look to continue his strong performance and possibly earn a late-season call-up when rosters expand.
From RotoBaller
St. Louis Cardinals left-handed pitching prospect allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over three innings on Wednesday against Triple-A Charlotte. Mathews was able to rack up seven strikeouts with 14 whiffs on 31 swings, but was inconsistent with his control as he threw just 42 of 79 pitches for strikes. The lefty has had at least three walks in 11 of 18 starts this season. For the season, the 24-year-old owns a respectable 3.88 ERA, but a bloated 1.65 WHIP in 65 innings at Triple-A. He'll need to harness his strike-throwing for him to be in any consideration for a starter role in the future.
From RotoBaller
New York Mets shortstop prospect Jett Williams went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in his second game since being promoted to Triple-A. Williams earned a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse after hitting .281/.390/.477 with 10 homers and 32 stolen bases in 421 plate appearances at Double-A. He showed a patient approach with a 14.7% walk rate, which allowed him to maximize his speed on the basepaths. The speedy shortstop is one of the smaller players in baseball at 5'7", 175 pounds, but popped 13 homers across multiple levels in 2023 and has double-digits this season. The power upside may not be super high, and there are some concerns with the hit tool, but he has plenty of speed.
From RotoBaller
Miami Marlins outfielder Jakob Marsee continued an incredible start to his career with his best performance yet in a 13-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. Marsee finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, seven RBI, and a stolen base. The 24-year-old launched a three-run homer in the first and added a two-run blast in the fifth. Since debuting on Aug. 1, Marsee has slashed an absurd .436/.542/.672 with three HRs, 13 RBI, eight runs scored, six steals, and 9:9 K:BB in a 13-game, 48-plate appearance span. He's the first player in league history to collect 10 or more extra-base hits and steal six-plus bases in his first 13 games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. As Miami's eighth-ranked prospect at MLB Pipeline, Marsee didn't reach the majors with a ton of hype, which makes his career-opening outburst all the more remarkable.

Texas Rangers reliever Phil Maton (2-4) blew a save and took his fourth loss of the season in a 6-4 heartbreaker against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Maton entered in the eighth with a 3-2 lead and two outs, and he struck out Tyler Locklear to end the inning. The Rangers kept Maton in for the ninth, which looked like a smart decision when the right-hander fanned the first two hitters he faced. The wheels came off after that, however, as Maton allowed a home run to James McCann, put two men on with a walk and a hit by pitch, and then surrendered a three-run blast to Ketel Marte. Maton ultimately achieved his goal of getting four outs, but not before surrendering four earned runs in a crushing loss. It was by far his worst outing since he joined the Rangers in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals on July 31. Before Wednesday's implosion, Maton had given up just one run on two hits in his first five innings with the Rangers. With Texas lacking a go-to closer, Maton should continue to receive save chances, but he didn't do himself any favors on Wednesday.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Tigers reliever Will Vest secured a shutout and notched his 18th save in a 1-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Vest pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a strikeout for his second save in a row. It appeared that recent acquisition Kyle Finnegan had taken the closer role away from Vest, but that might not be the case after all. Vest has both of the Tigers' saves this week, while Finnegan worked a scoreless eighth inning and picked up his first hold on Wednesday. After putting together four straight scoreless appearances, Vest has lowered his ERA to 2.61 with a 1.05 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB in 51 2/3 innings.

The Chicago Cubs are promoting outfield prospect Owen Caissie from Triple-A Iowa, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reports. The 23-year-old Canadian will join the Cubs in Toronto on Thursday and could make his debut against the Blue Jays. Chicago acquired Caissie from the San Diego Padres as part of the return for right-hander Yu Darvish in December 2020, and he now ranks as the Cubs' top prospect and the game's 45th-best farmhand at MLB Pipeline. The left-handed hitter earned his way to the majors this year by slashing an excellent .292/.393/.573 with 22 home runs and 52 RBI in 400 plate appearances with Iowa. The Cubs will have to figure out how to distribute outfield/DH playing time with Caissie joining Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Seiya Suzuki, and Ian Happ, but the team has been in a funk lately and could use a jolt. Caissie may be able to provide it.

Houston Astros reliever Bryan Abreu closed out the Boston Red Sox to log his first save of the year in a 4-1 win on Wednesday. With closer Josh Hader now on the 15-day injured list with a strained left shoulder, the Astros called on Abreu to pitch the ninth. While Abreu did allow back-to-back singles to start the inning, he retired three in a row and punched out the last two hitters he faced in a scoreless frame. Manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that he won't name a full-time closer in Hader's absence (which may be lengthy), but Abreu has excelled this season and should continue to receive save opportunities. The 28-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 1.64 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP, 81:25 K:BB, and 25 holds in 55 innings.
From RotoBaller
Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya (ankle) sprained his left ankle on Wednesday and will head to the 10-day injured list, manager Craig Counsell told reporters. Amaya suffered the injury when he stepped on first base awkwardly on an infield single in the eighth inning of the Cubs' 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. He had to be carted off the field with what looked like a catastrophic injury, but X-rays came back negative. It's unclear how long the Cubs will go without Amaya, who just returned on Wednesday after missing over two months with a strained left oblique. The 26-year-old has appeared in just 28 games this season and hit .281/.314/.500 with four homers, 25 RBI, and 14 runs scored in 103 plate appearances. Carson Kelly and Reese McGuire will handle the catching duties in Amaya's absence.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Guardians left-hander John Means (elbow) was able to use his full repertoire during an 18-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday, according to the team. Means is slowly building back up as he rehabs from the elbow surgery he underwent in June 2024 as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. The owner of a lifetime 3.68 ERA over 401 innings and 78 appearances (73 starts), Means hit free agency last winter and joined the Guardians on a one-year, $1 million guarantee. The deal also includes a $6 million club option for 2026, so the Guardians will want to see Means in game action before deciding whether to pick it up. The Guardians expect the 32-year-old to debut in September if he avoids setbacks.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) is "feeling a lot better" and "progressing really well" as he works back from plantar fasciitis in his right foot, manager Stephen Vogt said. Thomas has been running and participating in some baseball activities as he moves toward a potential September return. The 29-year-old has gone through a slow recovery process since he landed on the 10-day IL on July 5, continuing a frustrating season for him. Thomas has been on the IL three times (twice for foot issues, once for a wrist injury) and has seen his production crater when he has taken the field. After combining for a .250/.309/.428 line with 60 homers and 60 stolen bases from 2022-24, Thomas has hit a meek .160/.246/.272 line with four HRs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored, and four steals across 142 plate appearances in 2025.
From RotoBaller
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene turned in an ace-like performance on Wednesday in an 8-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Making his return after missing two-plus months with a groin injury, Greene fired six shutout innings and allowed three hits with no walks and six strikeouts on 85 pitches (58 strikes). He generated 16 whiffs and gave up just one extra-base hit - a double to Kyle Schwarber. Greene has been on the IL twice this year with groin issues, but the 26-year-old has delivered elite results when healthy. Over 12 starts and 65 2/3 innings, Greene has gone 5-3 with a 2.47 ERA, a .93 WHIP, and 79 strikeouts against 14 walks. He's scheduled to make his next start against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.
From RotoBaller
Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (calf) was sharp in his third and final rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday. Taillon tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball with four strikeouts and two walks on 84 pitches (51 strikes). Cubs manager Craig Counsell indicated beforehand that it would be the last start in the minors for Taillon, who has been on the 15-day injured list with a strained right calf since July 1. He'll slide back into the Cubs' rotation with a 4.44 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 74:20 K:BB over 95 1/3 innings. Taillon is expected to start during the Cubs' five-game series against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers next week.
From RotoBaller
Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya (leg) had to be carted off the field on Wednesday after suffering an apparent leg injury against the Toronto Blue Jays. Amaya went down with the injury when he stepped on first base awkwardly on an infield single in the top of the eighth inning. The Cubs replaced him with Reese McGuire. It's an awful development for Amaya, who came back from the injured list on Wednesday after missing around two and a half months with a strained left oblique. Amaya had been out since May 25 and looks likely to end up right back on the IL. The 26-year-old went 1-for-3 on Wednesday and has hit a solid .280/.314/.500 with four homers, 25 RBI, and 14 runs scored in 103 plate appearances this season.
