Raiders fire special teams coordinator Tom McMahon

Fri Nov 7 5:31pm ET
Field Level Media

The Las Vegas Raiders fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon, the team announced Friday afternoon.

It would appear Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Denver Broncos was the final straw for McMahon, who has been in that role with the Raiders since 2022, two head coaches ago.

In that narrow loss, punter AJ Cole had a punt blocked for the second time this season, setting up what became the game-winning field goal for Denver. Las Vegas kicker Daniel Carlson missed a would-be game-tying field goal with 4:26 left.

A missed extra point the week prior in the overtime loss to Jacksonville and a blocked field goal in the Raiders' 25-24 loss to Chicago on Sept. 28 also loom large as special teams problems that have played a role in the team's 2-7 record.

"Earlier today, we made the tough decision to relieve Tom McMahon of his duties as special teams coordinator," coach Pete Carroll said in a statement. "I have a great amount of respect for Tom and the work that has done in this league, but we have decided to move in a different direction. Derius Swinton II will assume special teams coordinator duties for the second half of this season with outstanding intent and purpose.

"We are grateful for Tom and his work here with the Raiders and wish him nothing but the best moving forward."

McMahon has been consistently working as a special teams coach in the NFL since he was the assistant special teams coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007-08. He's since served as the ST coordinator for the St. Louis Rams (2009-11), Kansas City Chiefs (2012), Indianapolis Colts (2013-17) and Broncos (2018-21) before landing in Las Vegas.

Value Picks: Week 10

Player Notes
Devon Achane Nov 9 5:00pm ET
Devon Achane

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane had 22 carries for 174 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns during Sunday's Week 10 win over the Buffalo Bills. He also caught all six of his targets for an additional 51 receiving yards. The 24-year-old turned in his best fantasy outing since his rookie season, cementing his position as the overall RB3 in fantasy football so far this year. Achane took advantage of a positive game script and a favorable matchup on Sunday, but he has previously shown that he is capable of producing regardless of opponent. Managers should continue to start him as a high-end RB1 in Week 11 against the Washington Commanders.

Tyler Warren Nov 9 4:20pm ET
Tyler Warren

Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren caught eight of his 10 targets for 99 yards during Sunday's Week 10 victory against the Atlanta Falcons in Berlin. The rookie set season-highs (and, thus, career-highs) in all three statistical categories on Sunday. He continues to be one of Daniel Jones' favorite targets, making a huge 23-yard catch to get the Colts in scoring position during overtime Sunday, among other key plays. Warren will enjoy a Week 11 bye before returning to action against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12. He should continue to be started as a high-end TE1 in fantasy football.

Alec Pierce Nov 9 4:10pm ET
Alec Pierce

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce caught four of his seven targets for 84 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons in overtime. Pierce has quietly emerged as one of Daniel Jones' top targets lately, hauling in 17 passes for 366 yards and one touchdown over his last four games. It's no secret that Indianapolis' offense revolves around Jonathan Taylor, but Pierce has established himself as a significant threat when the Colts pass the ball. He'll enjoy a Week 11 bye before returning to action as a solid fantasy WR3 in Week 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Daniel Jones Nov 9 4:10pm ET
Daniel Jones

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones completed 19 of 26 pass attempts for 255 yards, one touchdown, and one interception during Sunday's Week 10 win against the Atlanta Falcons in overtime in Berlin. He also had 53 rushing yards on seven carries. Most of Indianapolis' scoring came from Jonathan Taylor on the ground Sunday, but Jones still made an impact by facilitating scoring drives and adding one touchdown through the air. He'll remain a mid-to-low fantasy QB1 on the other side of the Week 11 bye, with most of his fantasy value hinging on exactly how much Taylor gets involved.

Jaxson Dart Nov 9 4:00pm ET
Jaxson Dart

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart was diagnosed with a concussion during Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Chicago Bears. He will not return. The rookie finishes the game with 19 completions, 242 passing yards, 66 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns. Russell Wilson has taken over at quarterback and will continue to lead the Giants' offense as they look to hold off a late comeback effort from Chicago. Looking forward, the Giants' next game is just seven days away, which doesn't leave a lot of time for Dart to clear concussion protocol. We could see Wilson earn the start in Week 11 against Green Bay.

Garrett Wilson Nov 9 4:00pm ET
Garrett Wilson

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Cleveland Browns. He exited in the third quarter and was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to out. He finishes the game with zero receptions on three targets. New York's passing game as a whole has been underwhelming on Sunday, with Justin Fields struggling to complete passes while throwing his first interception of the season. With Wilson sidelined, Isaiah Williams, John Metchie, Tyler Johnson, and Mason Taylor will step up as Fields' top targets.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) exited during the third quarter of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Cleveland Browns. He is officially listed as questionable to return. At the time of his departure, he had three targets but zero receptions. New York's passing game as a whole has been underwhelming on Sunday, with Justin Fields completing just five of 10 passes for 12 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception through the first three quarters. With Wilson sidelined, Isaiah Williams, John Metchie, Tyler Johnson, and Mason Taylor will step up as Fields' top targets.

Jaxson Dart Nov 9 3:30pm ET
Jaxson Dart

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart (head) was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion during the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Chicago Bears. At the time of his departure, he had 241 passing yards, 67 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns. The rookie quarterback has played very clean football against the Bears, leading the Giants to a one-possession lead in the fourth quarter. Russell Wilson has taken over under center and will look to preserve (or extend) New York's lead over Chicago.

Dalton Kincaid Nov 9 3:20pm ET
Dalton Kincaid

Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid (hamstring) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Miami Dolphins. He initially exited in the third quarter and was listed as questionable before being downgraded to out. Kincaid had caught two of three targets for 37 yards at the time of his departure. Dawson Knox will take over as the Bills' primary tight end as they try to erase a two-possession deficit in Miami.

Dalton Kincaid

Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid (hamstring) exited during the third quarter of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Miami Dolphins. He is officially listed as questionable to return, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. At the time of his departure, Kincaid had caught two of three targets for a team-leading 37 yards. The 26-year-old and his teammates haven't been able to get much going offensively, falling into a shocking two-possession deficit against Miami. Dawson Knox will take over as the Bills' primary tight end until Kincaid can return to action.

Jordan Whittington Nov 9 3:10pm ET
Jordan Whittington

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Jordan Whittington (back) is officially active for Sunday's Week 10 contest against the San Francisco 49ers. He had previously been listed as questionable. Despite suiting up Sunday, Whittington can't be trusted as a reliable fantasy option. The 25-year-old saw his snap share drop to 44 percent last week, and he didn't command a single target in the Rams' win. With both Puka Nacua and Davante Adams healthy, Whittington's can be left on waivers in most fantasy leagues.

Darius Slayton Nov 9 3:00pm ET
Darius Slayton

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) has returned to Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Chicago Bears. He initially exited in the first half with a hamstring injury and was deemed questionable to return. He checked back in during the second half, looking to build on an impressive start that included three catches for 85 yards. He'll continue to operate alongside Wan'Dale Robinson in the Giants' offense.

Terrell Jennings Nov 9 3:00pm ET
Terrell Jennings

New England Patriots running back Terrell Jennings (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He exited in the first quarter and was originally listed as questionable before his status was downgraded. Jennings earned the Patriots' first carry on Sunday and ultimately tallied five rushing yards on four attempts. He had been handling increased volume alongside TreVeyon Henderson with Rhamondre Stevenson (toe) sidelined for the second consecutive week. Henderson will remain atop the depth chart while D'Ernest Johnson operates as his backup.

Cooper Kupp Nov 9 2:50pm ET
Cooper Kupp

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp (hamstring, heel) is officially active for Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Arizona Cardinals. He had been listed as questionable but was trending in the right direction after logging a full practice on Friday. The veteran receiver is returning from a one-week absence and has been relatively underwhelming this season with 24 catches, 293 yards, and one touchdown through seven games. He and Rashid Shaheed will co-exist behind alpha receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba on Sunday afternoon.

AJ Barner Nov 9 2:40pm ET
AJ Barner

Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner (calf) is officially active for Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Arizona Cardinals. He had been listed as questionable but was trending in the right direction after logging a full practice on Friday. The pass-catching tight end has had an up-and-down season, offering low-end TE1 value from time to time. Overall, though, he ranks as the TE18 in PPR leagues through eight games. He's a high-end TE2 with low-end TE1 upside this week.

From RotoBaller

Tory Horton Nov 9 2:40pm ET
Tory Horton

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tory Horton (groin, shin) is officially inactive for Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Arizona Cardinals. He had been listed as doubtful after missing the Seahawks' Thursday and Friday practices. He had four catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns last week, so Seattle will miss his presence. With that said, they've found reinforcements in the form of Rashid Shaheed, who was acquired from the Saints last week.

From RotoBaller

Tyler Allgeier Nov 9 2:30pm ET
Tyler Allgeier

Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier had 11 carries for 57 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns during Sunday's Week 10 loss against the Indianapolis Colts. Allgeier's production has been inconsistent this year, and Sunday's overtime thriller saw him post his largest carry total since Week 4. The 25-year-old remains the backup option behind Bijan Robinson, showcasing that he can have standalone fantasy value from time to time. Unfortunately, his good games have been a bit unpredictable, so it's tough to trust him as a fantasy starter as long as he's healthy. For now, he remains a handcuff with low-end RB3/flex appeal in Week 11 against the Carolina Panthers.

From RotoBaller

Brock Purdy Nov 9 2:30pm ET
Brock Purdy

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) is inactive for Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Los Angeles Rams. He had been listed as questionable but was not expected to play after being a limited participant in practice last week. The team is hopeful that Purdy can return in Week 11 following a six-game absence. So far, he has appeared in just two games this season. Mac Jones will earn another start in his absence on Sunday.

From RotoBaller

Darius Slayton Nov 9 2:20pm ET
Darius Slayton

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) exited during the second quarter of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Chicago Bears. He is questionable to return. He was having a spectacular game at the time of his departure, catching three passes for 85 yards as the Giants' leading receiver. With Slayton sidelined for the time being, Ray-Ray McCloud III or Jalin Hyatt could step up as the No. 2 receiver behind Wan'Dale Robinson. Tight ends Theo Johnson and Daniel Bellinger should also be heavily involved.

From RotoBaller

Terrell Jennings Nov 9 2:00pm ET
Terrell Jennings

New England Patriots running back Terrell Jennings (knee) exited during the first quarter of Sunday's Week 10 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is officially listed as questionable to return. At the time of his departure, he had five rushing yards on four carries, including the Patriots' first rush attempt of the game. Jennings had been handling increased volume alongside TreVeyon Henderson with Rhamondre Stevenson (toe) sidelined for the second consecutive week. Henderson will remain atop the depth chart while D'Ernest Johnson operates as his backup until Jennings can return.
