Felix Bautista Thu Jul 24 11:20am CT

The Baltimore Orioles placed closer Felix Bautista (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list on Thursday with right-shoulder discomfort and recalled right-hander Kade Strowd from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move, according to Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun. Bautista was unavailable for the loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, and now we know why. Although the assumption is that Seranthony Dominguez will get the first crack at save chances in Baltimore with Bautista sidelined, interim manager Tony Mansolino left it open. "I don't think that you have a specific closer so to speak. I think you're probably going to try to get your best matchups throughout the game," Mansolino said. If the skipper settles on more of a committee approach, both Gregory Soto and Yennier Cano could also be involved. Bautista is unlikely to be traded at the deadline now that he's on the IL.

    Tyler O'Neill Thu Jul 24 11:20am CT

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Tyler O'Neill (soreness) is back in right field and will bat fifth for Thursday's contest against the hosting Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen at Progressive Field. The Orioles held O'Neill out of the lineup the last few games due to general soreness, but he's feeling better for the series finale against the Guards. Fantasy manager will probably be keeping the 30-year-old Canadian on their benches until he shows some signs of life at the plate. It's been an injury-riddled and disappointing season for him in his first year in Baltimore, as he enters Thursday's tilt slashing an ugly .177/.264/.319 with a career-low .582 OPS, three home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs and two steals in just 33 games played. He's also hitless in three career at-bats against Allen.

Brusdar Graterol Thu Jul 24 10:10am CT

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) is working through a throwing progression at the team's complex in Arizona, and it remains possible that he'll be able to return this season. He underwent right shoulder surgery on his labrum last November and has been on the sidelines all season. Graterol only appeared in seven games in 2024 with a 2.45 ERA and 8.59 K/9, but he did pitch well in the team's playoff run and in the World Series. The hard-throwing righty may be back to contribute again in the playoffs, but he still has a long way to go in his recovery.

Robert Gasser Thu Jul 24 10:00am CT

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Robert Gasser (elbow) is continuing his rehab from Tommy John surgery and is scheduled to make a one-inning start for the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday. The 26-year-old lefty looked strong in five starts for the Brew Crew last season before undergoing the season-ending procedure in late June. This will be his first rehab outing as he tries to climb back to the majors in time to help the team this season. Depending on how his recovery goes, he could work his way into a limited role, but due to the severity of the injury and how long he's been sidelined, he will likely be brought along slowly and managed carefully. In most leagues, he's just someone to monitor at this point, although he may be worth picking up later in the season.

Fernando Cruz Thu Jul 24 10:00am CT

New York Yankees relief pitcher Fernando Cruz (oblique) is still a ways from returning to the Yankees' pen, but he has resumed a throwing program. Manager Aaron Boone said that Cruz felt "awesome" after his last session, but also acknowledged it's a slower program because Cruz is not fully recovered from his left oblique strain. Cruz originally sustained the injury during a medicine ball workout in the weight room, and he has been sidelined since the end of June. The fact that he's throwing is a good sign that he remains on track to return at some point in August. It isn't clear if he'll need a rehab stint or not before returning to New York to join the Yankees.

Mark Canha Thu Jul 24 10:00am CT

Kansas City Royals outfielder Mark Canha (elbow) continues to recover from left elbow epicondylitis, which landed him on the 10-day injured list earlier this month. He is reportedly feeling much better after receiving an injection to help with his elbow soreness, and he has been able to resume throwing and playing catch. He has not yet been able to get back to hitting, though, so he may need a little more time to recover. In his 46 games with the Royals this year, Canha is hitting just .212 with one home run and a .244 wOBA. He has still been mentioned in trade rumors for teams looking to add a proven veteran bat, but he'll need to show he's healthy and ready to contribute for the stretch run. The latest reports, though, do make it sound like he's on his way back relatively soon.

Luis Gil Thu Jul 24 9:40am CT

New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil (lat) started on Wednesday for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He went 3 1/3 innings while giving up four earned runs on four hits and issuing three walks in 67 pitches. He did have four strikeouts, but continues to refine his control. Before the outing, manager Aaron Boone said the team had not decided if this would be Gil's final rehab outing, but that decision should come in the next few days. He hasn't been dominant in his work in the minors, but the 27-year-old righty is nearing his season debut, which should be a boost for the Yankees' rotation. Last year, Gil earned the AL Rookie of the Year Award by going 15-7 in 29 games with a 3.50 ERA, 4.14 FIP, and 10.15 K/9. The Yankees will hope he returns to that form for their playoff chase in the coming weeks.

Blake Treinen Thu Jul 24 9:40am CT

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen (forearm) pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts on Wednesday, needing only nine pitches to get through the inning. He is scheduled to pitch again on Thursday for the Oklahoma City Comets, and if everything goes well, could rejoin the Dodgers bullpen this weekend. Pitching on back-to-back days is the final step in Treinen's rehab, so the 37-year-old should be back in the mix soon. He has been sidelined since April 13 with a right forearm sprain, but is getting healthy at a good time since Tanner Scott (elbow) just landed on the injured list. Kirby Yates and lefty Alex Vesia will continue to fill in at closer until Treinen is ready to jump back into high-leverage situations.

Marcelo Mayer Thu Jul 24 9:20am CT

Boston Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer (wrist) left Wednesday night's game against the Phillies with right wrist discomfort. After the game, he was wearing a brace on his wrist and said he would get an MRI. Mayer said, "It's in pain, but hopefully, it's not too severe." Mayer is hitting .228 with four homers, 10 RBI, and a .291 wOBA since making his debut for the Sox earlier this season. Mayer was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft and rose quickly through the minors. He's a key part of the Red Sox young core, and hopefully, this injury isn't too serious. The team is off on Thursday, so keep an eye out for updates on his status heading into the weekend series against the Dodgers at Fenway.

Robert Hassell Thu Jul 24 7:40am CT

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III went 2-for-6 with a home run in Wednesday's extra-inning loss against Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Hassell has enjoyed a strong month of July, slashing .323/.429/.446 with a pair of homers and stolen bases in 65 at-bats. The 23-year-old was promoted to the majors in late May, and struggled mightily with just a .497 OPS in 79 plate appearances. His minor league numbers have never jumped off the page at any level, as he's been more above-average to solid at most stops. That doesn't give him the most upside in dynasty leagues, and he won't have much appeal in redraft leagues except in NL-only formats if he were to return to the majors this year.

Bryce Eldridge Thu Jul 24 6:00am CT

San Francisco Giants first baseman Bryce Eldridge went 1-for-4 with a walk-off home run during their contest against Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday evening. This was also Eldridge's second-straight game going deep. Since returning to Triple-A Sacramento on July 18 after a stint on the injured list, Eldridge has held a strong .647 SLG with three extra-base hits over his last five games. Through 21 games with Triple-A this season, the top-ranked prospect in San Francisco has held a .231/.279/.474 line with four doubles and five long balls. While Eldridge has struggled to make consistent contact, he has continued to show immense power upside. Earlier in the season, he held a .862 OPS through 34 games with Double-A. If Eldridge can continue to find his footing at Triple-A, he could be in the mix for a late-season MLB debut.

Travis Bazzana Thu Jul 24 5:50am CT

Cleveland Guardians second base prospect Travis Bazzana has continued his impressive run at Double-A with another strong showing on Wednesday evening. Facing Double-A Harrisburg, the former first overall pick went 1-for-4 with a walk. This extended his current on-base streak at the Double-A level to 15 games. During this stretch, the Oregon State product has posted a remarkable .345/.446/.582 slash line with seven doubles, two home runs, five stolen bases, and a 15:9 K:BB. Over his last four games, since returning from the injured list, Bazzana has been swinging an awfully hot bat, posting a .438/.500/.625 line with three doubles. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production as he could be in the mix to join Triple-A later this season. Even though injuries have limited him in his first full professional campaign, he should continue to be viewed as a high-end dynasty asset.

    From RotoBaller

Justin Crawford Thu Jul 24 5:40am CT

Philadelphia Phillies outfield prospect Justin Crawford went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI during their contest against Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday evening. This was Crawford's third long ball of the regular season. This was also his second-straight game tallying multiple hits. Throughout his first 78 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the No. 48-ranked prospect in the sport has been nothing short of impressive, holding a .331/.414/.438 slash line with 18 doubles, three triples, and 31 stolen bases. He has held a solid 63:44 K:BB and has scored 57 runs. Last summer, Crawford spent most of his time with Double-A, where he posted a similar .331/.380/.455 line. Seeing Crawford continue to show his elite contact skills and speed at the top level of the minor leagues is an excellent sign for his long-term outlook. Given his production, he should be viewed as a top stash candidate going forward.

Druw Jones Thu Jul 24 5:30am CT

Arizona Diamondbacks outfield prospect Druw Jones made headlines last night at High-A by posting an inside-the-park home run during the opening frame in their contest against High-A Tri-City. Later in the contest, Jones would also tack on another RBI. Over his last eight games, Jones has tallied three home runs while holding a .866 OPS with a 5:2 K:BB. The No. 7-ranked prospect in the Arizona system on MLB.com has spent the entire campaign with his first taste at the High-A level. Through 87 games with Hillsboro, Jones has posted a modest .243/.314/.340 line, but he appears to be turning the corner from a power perspective. Last season, the former second overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft led a .275/.409/.405 line through 109 games at Low-A. Given his slow start to the season, he will likely spend the entire second half with High-A.

Ryan Clifford Thu Jul 24 5:30am CT

New York Mets first base prospect Ryan Clifford went 3-for-4 with two long balls, three RBI, and a walk during their contest against Double-A Reading on Wednesday evening. Clifford was able to snap a nine-game power skid in a big way with his second two-homer game of the campaign. During this nine-game slump, the former 11th-round pick posted a low .086/.200/.114 slash line with a double. Through 89 total games with Double-A this season, Clifford has posted a .235/.351/.476 line with an .827 OPS and 19 round-trippers. Last summer, Clifford made his Double-A debut and held a similar .231/.359/.456 line but just 18 long balls across a larger 98-game stint. If Clifford can continue to progress, he may be in the mix to earn a taste of Triple-A later this season.

Harry Ford Thu Jul 24 5:20am CT

Seattle Mariners catching prospect Harry Ford went 2-for-5 with a grand slam during their contest against Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday evening. In this game, Ford tallied five RBI and scored two runs. Over his last four games, Ford has held a .353/.450/.529 slash line with a 4:1 K:BB and one stolen base. After a disappointing 2024 campaign with Double-A, the budding backstop has looked quite comfortable during his first step of Triple-A action. Through 74 total games with Triple-A Tacoma, the No. 55-ranked prospect in the sport on MLB.com has posted a strong .293/.409/.446 slash line with 14 doubles and 10 long balls. Last season, the backstop held a modest .249/.377/.367 with a low .744 OPS across an entire season with Double-A. Given his steady progress this summer, Ford should be in the mix to make his MLB debut in the second half.

Tyler Glasnow Thu Jul 24 12:36am CT

Dodgers' SP Tyler Glasnow recorded 12 strikeouts in 7 innings in a 4-3 win over the Twins on Wednesday, Jul. 23.

Dylan Beavers Thu Jul 24 12:10am CT

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Dylan Beavers went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and an additional run scored in a 14-6 loss against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Beavers has been scorching at the plate recently, hitting 291/.418/.600 with five homers, two stolen bases, and an 11:10 BB:K in 55 bats in July. Beavers is now up to an incredibly impressive .305/.405/.502 line to go with 13 homers and 20 steals in 329 plate appearances on the season. He is the only player in Triple-A this year with those power and speed totals along with an OBP of at least .400. The 23-year-old is approaching a promotion to the big leagues soon with production levels like this, and he should be on the radar of fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Caden Dana Thu Jul 24 12:00am CT

Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect Caden Dana allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out three across 2.1 innings against Triple-A Albuquerque. Dana threw only 52 pitches in this outing and was largely ineffective despite only conceding one run. It's been a tough season at Triple-A Salt Lake for the 21-year-old right-hander, holding a 6.13 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and a 54:31 K:BB. He made a couple of appearances with the Angels earlier in the year, and allowed five runs in six innings on seven hits and five walks. After a dominant 2024 season at Double-A with a 2.52 ERA in 135.2 innings, Dana has taken a bit of a step back this season. He still rates as one of the best arms in the Angels system, and is plenty young enough to correct course.

Colson Montgomery Wed Jul 23 11:38pm CT

Chicago White Sox's SS Colson Montgomery had five RBIs going 2-for-5 with a home run in a 11-9 win over Tampa Bay on Wednesday, Jul. 23.
