Houston Astros first baseman Jose Abreu could return to the majors on Friday, according to general manager Dana Brown. Abreu will play in a few more minor-league games before the team makes their decision. The veteran slugger was sent down to the Florida Complex League after a horrific start to the season that saw him carrying a .099/.156/.113 slash line. Jon Singleton has seen most of the playing time at first base while Abreu has been away. Singleton could continue to see action even when Abreu comes back as there is no guarantee that Abreu will return to an everyday role.

New York Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle (shoulder) could return to the majors on Wednesday, according to manager Aaron Boone. Kahnle made multiple relief appearances with Double-A Somerset over the weekend and did not allow a run in any outing. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since last season with shoulder inflammation, but he is finally nearing a return. Kahnle has been an effective bullpen piece throughout his career as evidenced by his 2.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB across 42 games last season. He is a decent option for managers in leagues that track holds as a scoring category.

Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud (head) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. The veteran backstop left Friday's game after taking a foul ball off of his mask. He reportedly felt dizzy after the incident, but he was not diagnosed with a concussion and is considered day-to-day. Chadwick Tromp will start behind the plate and bat ninth while d'Arnaud recovers. Tromp has minimal fantasy appeal, especially with Sean Murphy (oblique) inching closer to a return.

Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley (side) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. It will be the sixth straight game that Riley has missed due to side inflammation. Riley has managed to avoid the injured list and is still considered day-to-day, but it is slightly concerning that he continues to miss time. In his absence, Zack Short will at third base and bat seventh against Padres starter Yu Darvish. Short is a fantasy afterthought at this point as he is slashing a paltry .172/.333/.241 through 29 at-bats in 2024.

Texas Rangers starting pitchers Nathan Eovaldi (groin) and Dane Dunning (shoulder) are both scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Assuming all goes well, Dunning may return to the Rangers' starting rotation at some point this week. The 29-year-old is a viable streaming option in the right matchups and owns a 4.10 ERA through seven starts in 2024. Eovaldi's return is a little more unclear as he continues to progress through his recovery. The 34-year-old is worthy of being stashed in the majority of formats as he was off to a strong start prior to the injury.

Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) is expected to re-join the major league roster sometime in the team's four-game set against the New York Yankees that begins on Monday. Crawford has been on the injured list since April 25 with a Grade 1 oblique strain. The 29-year-old faced a minor setback in a rehab game after being hit by a pitch. Thankfully, this has not seemed to delay his recovery much at all, as he could be in the starting lineup as soon as Monday. Crawford posted a mere .190/.296/302 line through the first 22 games of the season but tallied a career-high 19 home runs last season with a solid .266/.380/.438 slash line. Crawford should be expected to serve as the everyday shortstop in Seattle and typically bat in the leadoff spot.

Texas Rangers rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford (hamstring) has been "doing great" in his recovery process, per manager Bruce Bochy. Bochy expressed that "He's getting live at-bats, swinging the bat well too, down there in BP-He's doing well." This is a great sign for the 22-year-old who is just over the halfway mark of his expected 3-4 week absence that started on May 5. Before the injury, Langford posted a .224/.295/.293 slash line with just one home run and one stolen base. He should remain rostered in all leagues and should be a must-start player when he returns.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Saturday, and his fastball was clocking in at the low 90s. Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake said that Cole is "one notch ahead of your typical spring training progression." This means that the reigning AL Cy Young winner has a chance to face live hitters sometime next week. However, the 33-year-old is still several weeks away from a return, which could be somewhere around the mid-June or early July timetable. Cole should be rostered in all formats and will be inserted at the top of the Yankees rotation when he returns. This will likely send either Luis Gill or Clarke Schmidt to the bullpen if the Yankees opt to continue with a five-man starting rotation. However, both pitchers have performed quite well with a 2.39 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 2.49 ERA,1.13 WHIP, respectively, and could push the Yankees into having a six-man rotation.

New York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz has allowed eight earned runs in his past five innings and is losing his grasp on closing duties in Queens. On Sunday, manager Carlos Mendoza did not commit to a new closer but did describe Diaz's usage as "fluid." He further stated, "He'll do whatever it takes, whether that is pitching in the seventh, the eighth, the ninth-whatever that is losing, winning." These are not encouraging words for fantasy managers, especially with Diaz's recent production. For the short term, Mendoza might give ninth-inning duties to Reed Garrett, who enters Sunday with a stellar 0.78 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, or Adam Ottavino, who carries a 2.95 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. Diaz should still be the clear lead to earn save opportunities this summer but may need to pitch in a set-up role to gain his confidence back. Both Garrett and Ottavino are solid options to add this weekend from the waiver wire if you are desperate for saves.

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (foot) began performing baseball activities on Sunday. This is a great sign for the top prospect in the Cleveland system, as he was diagnosed with a broken foot earlier this season. The 22-year-old has yet to begin running, but this is a big step in the right direction. DeLauter appeared in only 16 games this season with Double-A Akron but posted an incredible .355/.417/.528 slash line in 57 games in the minor leagues in 2023. The number 21 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline should be able to return to the minor leagues later in the summer but may have to wait until next season to make his major league debut. He should remain rostered in dynasty and keeper leagues but has a slim chance of being valuable in redraft leagues.

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (hamstring) is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment within the next seven to 10 days. The left-handed slugger was able to take batting practice on Friday. He appears to be making solid progress from a hamstring strain he suffered in early May. The expectation is that he'll need a few minor league games before returning to the big league lineup. Fantasy managers should expect Kwan back around early June.

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove (triceps) won't be activated from the injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Instead, Musgrove is likely to be activated and start against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. The Padres were planning on bringing Musgrove back on Sunday, but a rainout on Saturday pushed back their rotation. Fantasy managers will have to wait a little longer before getting the 31-year-old back on the mound. Musgrove holds a 6.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and a 36/13 K/BB ratio through eight starts this season. On top of his injury, the 30-year-old Polanco has been a huge disappointment in his first year in Seattle, hitting just .192 (28-for-146) with five home runs, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored in 41 games played. Josh Rojas is getting another start at second base and is hitting leadoff against Orioles right-hander Corbin Burnes. Rojas is hitting .111 in nine career at-bats against Burnes. The 29-year-old is bound to cool off at the plate, but there's no ignoring the fact he's currently hitting .311 (37-for-119) with three homers, nine RBI and four steals.

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte will not start on Sunday against the Marlins in Miami. It appears to just be a normal day of rest for the 35-year-old veteran. DJ Stewart is getting the start in right field for the Mets and will hit cleanup against Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez. Marte has stayed healthy so far this year through 183 plate appearances and is currently slashing .266/.313/.379 with four home runs, 16 RBI, eight stolen bases and 22 runs scored for the Mets. He should be back in the lineup on Monday for the series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. Stewart has some thump in his lumber with four home runs in 35 games in 2024, but he's also hitting just .203 (15-for-74) with 16 RBI, 19 walks and 19 strikeouts. He has never faced Sanchez in his career.
