Favorite Picks Each Round

Ridley should benefit from new QB

We thought it would be a fun exercise to go over my favorite picks in each round of the draft. So using the ADP, I picked the player that goes in each round that I like to target come draft day. This would kind of be my ideal draft scenario. You can see my starting lineup and full roster at the end of the article for this 12-team league.

Here is what I’m thinking round-by-round. . . . .

Round 1: CeeDee Lamb, WR, Cowboys (5.86). I think Lamb might be the safest first-round pick. He is the clear top target in an offense that is going to throw the ball a ton. The Cowboys running game is a mess. And a healthy Dak Prescott is a huge plus for Lamb as well. I think he is going to have a monster season and make a run at top fantasy receiver in the game.

Round 2: Chase Brown, RB, Bengals (18.65). Brown had a breakout season last year, and I don’t think it was a fluke. He didn’t even open the season as the starter and still managed to finish 10th overall in fantasy scoring. He starts from day one in an explosive offense and should get all the goal-line work. Brown is setup for an even better season this year.

Round 3: Tyreek Hill, WR, Dolphins (26.22). Hill carries some risk, but he was bothered by a wrist injury much of the year, which hindered his production. I don’t think there is a player with a higher ceiling in Round 3 than Hill, which is why I’m taking that risk. He is healthy and has 111 or more receptions three of four seasons. He has something to prove this year, and I think he gets it done.

Round 4: Chuba Hubbard, RB, Panthers (39.12). I have a ton of shares of Hubbard already. I just love the fact he has next to no competition for carries and plays in an offense that could be much better this year if Bryce Young continues his development. Hubbard seems like a really safe pick with a consistent weekly floor. He is an ideal No. 2 fantasy back in my view.

Round 5: Tet McMillan, WR, Panthers (60.83). I hate to target players on bad teams, but McMillan really intrigues me. I just wonder why he isn’t getting the same love as some of the rookie receivers last year - Marvin Harrison, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas. McMillan is going to get a ton of targets and could have a similar season to Nabers in my view. That is big-time value at this point of the draft.

Round 6: Calvin Ridley, WR, Titans (70.01). Ridley is another one of my favorite targets. He is the clear top option in the Titans passing game. He gets a huge upgrade at quarterback this year, having rookie Cam Ward throwing him passes. Ridley hit the 1,000-yard mark in an awful offense last year with terrible quarterback play. He was targeted 120 times but caught just 64 passes last year. The ceiling is super high for Ridley this coming season. He is going to be a target magnet.

Round 7: Jaylen Warren, RB, Steelers (81.93). Rookie Kaleb Johnson is around and is going to get carries, but Warren is clearly the top back in passing situations. And we know new quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to throw the ball. This is going to have Warren on the field offense. I like him a lot as a flex play or low-end No. 2 fantasy back in this offense.

Round 8: Evan Engram, TE, Broncos (90.60). Engram heads to the Broncos and an offense that likes the tight end, especially in the red zone. And after Courtland Sutton, the options in the passing game aren’t the best. You could see Engram becoming a favorite target of Bo Nix in a hurry. Engram has some potential for a big first season in Denver.

Round 9: Tyjae Spears, RB, Titans (101.37). Spears was a bust last year but didn’t get the chances you hoped. The Titans are already stating they want more of a split backfield. Spears is a big-play threat with the ball in his hands, so he is the type of home-run hitter I like to have on my bench. He is a good spot play capable of the huge game any given week. And I look for his numbers to be a little more consistent this year, getting more weekly touches.

Round 10: Dak Prescott, QB, Cowboys (110.01). I do like going early on a quarterback at times, but Prescott is a target of mine at this cheap price. He is going to throw the ball a ton in this pass-first offense. I can see him passing for 5,000-passing yards and pushing 40 touchdowns. He can be a top-five fantasy quarterback. If you want to wait a little on a quarterback, Prescott is a guy to target. And I like him even better if I take Lamb in Round 1.

Round 11: Jayden Higgins, WR, Texans (132.85). Higgins is another rookie receiver I like a lot this year. He has a good chance to start opposite Nico Collins from day one. And he plays in a passing attack that looks to be a lot better this year. C.J. Stroud wasn’t great in year two but he lacked a lot of quality options in the passing game because of injuries. Higgins can produce some big games as a reserve fantasy receiver.

Round 12: Brandon Aubrey, K, Cowboys (133.67). Normally, I would never act early on a kicker. Ever. Never done it, but my mind is changing. I recently posted a story about teams being the first to draft a kicker. Of those teams, nearly 1/5 finished first or second in their league. Having the best kicker in the game made a difference last year. So for me, I might try it this season to see if it pays off. The price isn’t super high for Aubrey, either. So why not?

Round 13: C.J. Stroud, QB, Texans (153.32). If I’m going to wait on a quarterback, I like to double up pretty quickly. And Stroud is a favorite target of mine. He is dirt cheap after disappointing last season. Stroud gets all sorts of help at receiver this year through the draft and free agency. Remember, this guy was 11th in fantasy quarterback scoring as a rookie.

Round 14: Kyle Monangai, RB, Bears (166.13). Monangai is a big back that could be a real asset in short-yardage work. And we all know new head coach Ben Johnson likes to have a split backfield, so it would not surprise to see Monangai earn a role quickly in this offense. Plus, Johnson has a history of producing some fantasy backs with big touchdown numbers. I like taking a chance on Monangai at this point of the draft, hoping he becomes the goal-line back in Chicago.

Round 15: Cedric Tillman, WR, Browns (169.35). I like to have boom or bust players on my bench. You might have figured that out from the rest of my roster. Tillman certainly fits the bill. He had some big games last year when getting a chance to start, but disappeared in others. He should start from day one, and if Joe Flacco is throwing him passes, you have to like his chances for some more big games this season.

Round 16: Kansas City Chiefs (185.00). I might wait another round or two to grab a defense because the data shows going early on a defense doesn’t really help your chances of winning the league. But for the purposes of this article and filling out my lineup, I’ll go with the Chiefs if I’m taking a defense a little sooner than normal. You can get them after a lot of the top options at the position, but I think they can still be a top-five fantasy option this season. They have an innovative defensive coordinator that gets after the quarterback and causes turnovers. This unit has a lot of talent on that side of the ball, especially at cornerback and along the defensive line.

2025 Fantasy Running Back Preview

Player Notes
Jacory Croskey-Merritt Aug 12 4:00pm ET
Jacory Croskey-Merritt

Washington Commanders rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt (shoulder) did not take part in the scrimmage on Tuesday due to a minor shoulder injury that he picked up in the preseason opener last week against the New England Patriots, according to John Keim of ESPN. Keim adds that the Commanders were just taking precaution by holding the rookie out on Tuesday at training camp. The 24-year-old had eight touches for 32 yards last week and is expected to make the final 53-man roster heading into the regular season. The seventh-rounder will now compete for the No. 3 role in D.C. with Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez Jr. behind Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr. Croskey-Merritt is most likely going to need an injury to one or both of Ekeler and B-Rob in order to become a popular midseason waiver-wire target.

Miles Sanders Aug 12 3:40pm ET
Miles Sanders

Dallas Cowboys running back Miles Sanders (knee) was back at Tuesday's training camp practice in full pads, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. Meanwhile, rookie Jaydon Blue (heel) remained out. Sanders returns to the gridiron after missing around two weeks due to a left-knee bruise, including Dallas' preseason opener on Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams. The 28-year-old veteran will now continue to split first-team work in the backfield with Javonte Williams now that he's over his knee issue. Because Sanders is back so early in the week, he figures to suit up for the second preseason game on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. Sanders will have a role in Dallas' backfield, but this could be a full-on committee between Williams, Sanders and Blue by the time the regular season roles around, limiting Sanders' already weak fantasy value after a couple disappointing seasons in Carolina.

Shedeur Sanders Aug 12 3:30pm ET
Shedeur Sanders

The Athletic's Zac Jackson writes that Cleveland Browns rookie fifth-round quarterback Shedeur Sanders has "generally outplayed Dillon Gabriel throughout camp." Sanders also "delivered a steady, poised performance" last Friday in the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, who played most of their defensive starters the first two series. Despite the fact that Sanders impressed during the preseason opener and threw two touchdowns, he was still listed as fourth on the QB depth chart this week behind Gabriel. Gabriel missed the preseason opener due to a minor hamstring injury, but he's been back at practice and could start the second preseason game this Saturday against the Eagles. If Gabriel struggles this week, it's possible that Sanders could pass him on the unofficial depth chart. Either way, neither Sanders nor Gabriel are realistic contenders for the starting gig come Week 1.

Calvin Austin III Aug 12 3:20pm ET
Calvin Austin III

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III (abdomen) has been dealing with a minor abdominal muscle issue, sources told Alan Saunders of PGH Steelers Now. According to Austin's agent, it is the only reason that he has not been practicing with the team at training camp. Austin has missed practice for several days and didn't play in last week's preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he expects Austin to return to practice soon, and his injury isn't expected to impact his readiness for Week 1 of the regular season. He's entering the final year of his current deal, but his agent, Rodney Williams, confirmed that his client isn't holding out. If healthy, the 26-year-old is the favorite for WR2 duties in Pittsburgh in 2025 behind DK Metcalf, although that role isn't expected to yield much volume for what should be a run-first offense.

Mason Taylor Aug 12 3:10pm ET
Mason Taylor

New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor (ankle) has returned to training camp practice and is a full-go, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. Taylor has recovered quickly from what was being called a high-ankle sprain. The 21-year-old second-rounder missed the team's preseason opener last week, but now that he's back to full practices, he should be able to suit up for Saturday's second preseason game against the New York Giants. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues are probably going to ignore Taylor in 12-team leagues, but it's worth noting that he's fully expected to open the year as the Jets' top pass-catching tight end. The Jets' offense is expected to lean heavily on the ground game, but quarterback Justin Fields won't have many weapons to throw to outside of WR1 Garrett Wilson. Taylor should be a TE3 with upside for more.

Rashee Rice Aug 12 3:00pm ET
Rashee Rice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was looking sharp during Tuesday's training camp practice, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. Rice previously dealt with a groin injury in camp and was held out of the preseason opener on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals, but he looks fully healthy now as he prepares for his third year in the league. The 25-year-old was on his way to a breakout sophomore campaign in 2024 before suffering a season-ending torn LCL in his knee in Week 4. He had 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 regular-season games (eight starts) as a rookie, too, so if it wasn't for his potential four- to six-game suspension this year, Rice would be a firm WR2 target in upcoming fantasy drafts. Even with a looming suspension, Rice is in the WR3/flex conversation as KC's No. 1 wideout when he's available.

Caleb Williams Aug 12 2:40pm ET
Caleb Williams

The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain writes that Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has had good moments in training camp this summer, but it "hasn't been consistent enough," and the "accuracy hasn't been there like it was last summer." Fishbain lists Williams' stock as neutral right now after a sloppy practice on Monday. He also cautions that there's still almost a month until the season opener, and Williams has the right coach calling plays and an upgraded offensive line in front of him. "It hasn't been a smooth camp for the passing offense." It wasn't all terrible for the former first overall pick in his rookie season, as he threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns against only six interceptions. However, he was sacked a league-high 68 times and remains a work in progress going into his sophomore season. There's still plenty of upside, but he's best drafted as a high-end QB2 as he continues to devlop.

Marquise Brown Aug 12 2:30pm ET
Marquise Brown

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown (ankle, foot) is set to miss another training camp practice on Tuesday, according to Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride. Brown has not practiced with the team since July 29 due to an ankle/foot injury, although the 28-year-old is making progress and has resumed running. Head coach Andy Reid said that Hollywood's injury isn't expected to require surgery or anything like that, so they are staying optimistic that he'll be ready to play for the start of the 2025 regular season in early September. And with Rashee Rice most likely being suspended for anywhere from four to six games to begin the year, Brown should have an elevated role in the offense early on if he's available. We'd be surprised if Brown plays in the team's second preseason game this Friday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jayden Daniels Aug 12 2:20pm ET
Jayden Daniels

The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala writes that Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. and quarterback Jayden Daniels have developed a strong chemistry, which has been a "product of their reps before practices, conversations between seriess and budding friendship off the field." Samuel has been the "primary bright spot amid growing concern about the Commanders' receiving corps." The 29-year-old has taken advantage with Terry McLaurin holding out and Noah Brown dealing with injuries. Jhabvala writes that Samuel appears to be motivated by a fresh start and a soon-to-be-expiring contract after a disappointing final season in San Francisco. Samuel has dropped some weight and appears to be in much better shape in 2025 as well. If he stays healthy, Samuel could bounce back and be a nice value pick in fantasy drafts as a WR3/flex in an up-tempo offense.

Romeo Doubs Aug 12 2:10pm ET
Romeo Doubs

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs (back) suffered what appeared to be a back injury during Tuesday's training camp practice, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. Doubs was "doubled over for a few minutes but walked off with his hands on his lower back." It's unclear if Doubs' injury is serious, but the Packers cannot afford anymore injuries to their receiving corps, as Christian Watson (knee) is already on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and receivers Jayden Reed (foot) and Dontayvion Wicks (calf) are also banged up. Watson is expected to miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season, while it's unclear yet if Reed, Doubs and Wicks are in danger of missing the start of the regular season. It all means that rookie first-rounder Matthew Golden, who has been very impressive in camp, should have a prominent role right away in his first NFL season.

From RotoBaller

Christian Watson Aug 12 1:40pm ET
Christian Watson

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said that wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) will likely start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Peform list. It means that Watson will have to miss at least the first four games of the year after tearing his ACL late last year, but Gutekunst said that Watson will be "chomping at the bit" to after that. "It's gonna take a lot of us to hold him back," Gutekunst said. The Packers have their bye in Week 5, so barring a setback in his recovery, it seems very plausible that the 26-year-old pass-catcher will be able to make his 2025 debut in a Week 6 showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. When Watson returns, he'll be battling for targets in a crowded receiver room alongside Jayden Reed, Rombeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and rookie first-rounder Matthew Golden.

From RotoBaller

Kenneth Walker III Aug 12 1:30pm ET
Kenneth Walker III

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III (foot) dealt with a sore foot in the first few days of August before returning to a full practice last week, according to The Tacoma News Tribune's Gregg Bell. Since last week, Walker has been alternating days off, and head coach Mike Macdonald said Walker will be fine for the regular-season opener in early September. "We have a program. We have a plan for Ken," Macdonald said. "And we're sticking to the plan." It's a smart plan given how much time the 24-year-old has missed in recent years due to lower-body injuries. He played in a career-low 11 games in 2024 and finished with 573 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 153 rushing attempts. Walker is outside the RB1 conversation because of his injury risk and the fact that Seattle will most likely look to get Zach Charbonnet more involved to lessen the wear and tear on Walker moving forward.

From RotoBaller

Jaylen Waddle Aug 12 1:20pm ET
Jaylen Waddle

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said he was unsure if wide receivers Tyreek Hill (oblique) and Jaylen Waddle (undisclosed) will take part in joint practices with the Detroit Lions this week and called them both "day-to-day." Both Hill and Waddle didn't play in the preseason opener on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, but they are reportedly dealing with minor injuries and should be just fine for the Week 1 regular-season opener in early September. Still, they are both losing out on valuable repetitions this summer with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as Miami's offense looks to bounce back in 2025. Don't be surprised if the Dolphins hold out Hill and Waddle for the second preseason game this Saturday against Detroit. With both receivers sidelined, it will give more opportunities to Malik Washington, Erik Ezukanma, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Dee Eskridge.

From RotoBaller

Darren Waller Aug 12 1:20pm ET
Darren Waller

Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller will not join the team for training camp practices this week, according to head coach Mike McDaniel. Waller began camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list due to conditioning issues after coming out of retirement, and McDaniel isn't ready to throw him iinto the fire during joint practices this week with the Detroit Lions. The 32-year-old veteran will continue to work on his conditioning after not playing at all in 2024, but he's unlikely to come off the PUP list and play in the second preseason game this Saturday against the Lions. Waller had back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons in 2019 and 2020 with the Raiders, but it's fair to wonder if he has that kind of production in him at this point in his career. He's worth a late-round flier as a TE2 given the weak nature of the position, but don't expect him to put up the numbers that Jonnu Smith did in Miami in 2024.

From RotoBaller

Matthew Stafford Aug 12 1:10pm ET
Matthew Stafford

Sarah Barshop of ESPN says that Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) is not warming up with the other quarterbacks to start Tuesday's training camp practice. Stafford didn't have any limitations during a pre-game workout on Saturday before the preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys and was expected to practice for the first time this summer on Monday. The Rams held the 37-year-old out on Monday, and it looks like Stafford is going to miss another practice as he deals with a disc aggravation in his back. The Rams are choosing to be "flexible and fluid" with Stafford, but the longer he goes without practicing, the more questions will arise as to whether he'll be 100% for the Week 1 regular-season opener. If for some reason Stafford's back injury lingers, Jimmy Garoppolo would run L.A.'s offense.

A.J. Brown Aug 12 1:00pm ET
A.J. Brown

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown (hamstring) was listed as a limited participant in Tuesday's training camp practice, according to Tim McManus of ESPN. Brown missed a week of practices due to a hamstring ailment, but he's been limited since getting back on the field on Sunday. The Eagles are being cautious with their 28-year-old star receiver, and don't be surprised if he doesn't suit up in the preseason at all. For fantasy managers, there's no reason yet to be worried about his status for the Week 1 regular-season opener on Sept. 4 versus the division-rival Dallas Cowboys. Brown has been a Pro Bowler in two of his three years in Philadelphia and has reached the 1,000-yard mark in five of his six NFL campaigns, including in each of the last three years. The former second-rounder has had at least seven touchdowns since 2022 and is a top-10 fantasy wideout going into his seventh year.

Allen Lazard Aug 12 12:40pm ET
Allen Lazard

New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard (shoulder) will be out for a couple of weeks as he tends to his shoulder injury, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. Lazard will now most likely miss the rest of the preseason after picking up a right-shoulder injury in the preseason opener last weekend against the Green Bay Packers. Depending on how the 29-year-old recovers, he could be in danger of missing the Week 1 regular-season opener in early September as well. For a player that struggled with drops last year and is competing for a starting role in 2025, this isn't exactly great news. With Lazard out for a couple weeks, it will give Tyler Johnson a leg up as he looks to lock down the WR3 role in New York behind Garrett Wilson and Josh Reynolds. Lazard had 37 catche for 530 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games (10 starts) last year with the Jets.

Tyrion Davis-Price Aug 12 12:30pm ET
Tyrion Davis-Price

Free-agent running back Tyrion Davis-Price is signing an undisclosed deal with the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Davis-Price heads to the NFC North after he was released by the Tennessee Titans in th middle of July. The 24-year-old was originally a third-round pick (93rd overall) by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2022 NFL draft out of LSU. He never panned out in the Bay Area in two seasons there, carrying the ball a combined 40 times for 120 yards and no touchdowns on the ground in only seven games. Davis-Price appeared in one game with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 and had three carries for seven yards. He will provide some depth in the RB room during the preseason behind Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks. Wilson and Lloyd have been banged up in camp.

Tyrod Taylor Aug 12 12:20pm ET
Tyrod Taylor

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said that veteran backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor (knee) had a "procedure" on his knee, but the team hopes that he will be ready to go for the Week 1 regular-season opener in early September. Taylor missed practice on Monday with his knee injury and will now likely miss the rest of the preseason. With the 36-year-old sidelined, Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook will see additional reps in practices and the preseason behind starter Justin Fields. Taylor is in his 15th season in the NFL and is going into his second year with the Jets. Last year behind Aaron Rodgers, he played in only two games and threw for 119 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions on 22 pass attempts. Taylor is completely off the fantasy radar as long as Fields is healthy.

Brevin Jordan Aug 12 12:10pm ET
Brevin Jordan

The Houston Texans plan to place tight end Brevin Jordan (knee) on the season-ending Injured Reserve after he suffered a serious injury in Monday's training camp practice, a source tells Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle. It's unclear exactly what injury that Jordan suffered, but the 25-year-old was coming back from a torn ACL that limited him to just two games last year. It's a brutal blow for Jordan, who had been looking good in practices this summer as he competed for playing time behind starter Dalton Schultz. With Jordan now out for the entire 2025 season, Cade Stover and Irv Smith Jr. will be competing for playing time as the TE2 in Houston behind Schultz. In his four years in the NFL (all with Houston), Jordan has 53 catches on 80 targets for 532 yards and five touchdowns in 36 games (12 starts).
